Well then, after a season of ferry crashes, a visit to the great afterlife, romantic proposals and infidelity, we finally made it to the end of the third season of ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ The episode, titled “Didn’t We Almost Have It All,” left me surprised and a little bit irritated. The irritation comes mainly from having that damned Whitney Houston song stuck in my head after reading the title. The surprise comes from the fact that while I thought this season had some major weak spots, the finale brought it all back together and the season ended strong.
Let’s get the rock-climbers story out of the way. As I suspected, the guy with the axe in his head got that way because one of his friends tried to kill him to put him out of his misery. After they fell, the guy was in so much pain that his friend tried to kill him to end it. Though they lied to the doctors and said the axe went in accidentally, Derek realizes it was intentional during the surgery. The axe was too far in and there was no tearing in the brain. Cops and lawyers were on the scene after that. The friend who axed the guy said he’d do it again if he had to. He’s a true friend. Honestly, had they left this story out of the episode, it wouldn’t have mattered and they could’ve gotten the show done within an hour (and I wouldn’t have had to waste the first paragraph of this recap on this story which would’ve been more interesting had it not been in the season finale).
As for the relevant matters in the episode:
Derek got the offer for Chief of Surgery. He turned it down, telling Weber that if he really wishes he could do it all over again, he should. So Weber’s not leaving. Or maybe he is. Adele miscarried her baby, which turned out to be Weber’s child. She realized she misjudged him and it looks as though these two might be ready to fall back in love with one another.
Speaking of babies, Callie wants to have a baby. She and George even tried to conceive one in the break room. Shortly after, Izzie confessed that she’s still in love with him just after saying she’d do everything to support his marriage with Callie. The two shared lots of eye-contact after that but nothing more. George has bigger problems though. He didn’t pass his intern exam. He didn’t tell anyone but Bailey obviously knew. She told him he could either walk away from being a doctor or repeat his intern year. George chose to walk away but just as he was cleaning out his locker, the newest crop of interns came in, taking a self-guided tour of the hospital. A beautiful girl stays behind to ask him for advice. She introduces herself as Lexie Grey. Who is Lexie Grey? (Thanks to the commenter below who explained that she's Meredith's half-sister!)
Bailey got passed over for the Chief Resident position. Callie got it instead. There was no explanation for this because unlike the Attendings, who each got to meet with Weber to get their rejection speech (which mainly included Weber pointing out all of their personal flaws), Bailey got no such meeting. Callie’s name was posted on a bulletin board and that was that. I don’t understand how Callie got the position over Bailey. Sure, she appears to be a great doctor but we’ve never seen her delegating or taking charge. So either Bailey lost it because of the Denny fiasco last year or else we can just chalk it up to hospital politics.
Ava/Rebecca’s husband came to reclaim his wife. Like Rebecca said, her husband is a nice guy. He even admits to Alex that he didn’t pay enough attention to her. He clearly loves her though and is ready to bring her and their baby home. Alex is visibly disappointed by this but when Rebecca tells him that he’s the only person who saw the real her and asks him to give her a reason to stay, he cant. It seemed like he was letting her go because he didn’t want to make her stay, only to disappoint her.
Derek told Meredith that he flirted with the girl in the bar. Later, when they have more time to talk, he tells Meredith that he loves her and will never leave her but that she keeps leaving him. She doesn’t leave her friends but with him, she comes and goes whenever it’s convenient for her. He basically tells her that if she’s not in it for the long haul, she needs to leave him for good. She gets teary and then says she needs to go to help Cristina. Just before the wedding, Derek tells Burke that he doesn’t think he and Meredith are going to make it. He also lies to Burke and says he got turned down for the Chief of Surgery job.
Cristina and Burke didn’t get married. After Cristina freaked out because the vows she wrote on her hand got washed off, Burke came out to find her and decided that he knew she didn’t want to marry him. He gave her a speech that pretty much said just that. She tried to argue with him but both of them knew what he was saying was the truth. The two biggest signs that this marriage wasn’t meant to be were the vows and Cristina’s wedding attire.
While Burke had this beautiful set of self-written vows about how he was giving Cristina his heart, Cristina needed her friends to help her write hers. And though she can commit volumes of medical text and procedures to memory, she cant remember a short list of vows? Her hand isn’t that big so I can’t imagine she had all that much written on there. How did she plan to read the vows off her hand anyway?
The wedding attire was a beautiful mess. Her dress, while lovely seemed to cling to her narrow frame as though it was wearing her. Momma-Burke insisted that Cristina wear a jeweled choker that was a Burke-family heirloom. So if the dress wasn’t constricting enough, now she has a decorative collar to match it. The icing on the cake was when Preston’s mother tweezed Cristina’s eyebrows completely off. Cristina, whose eyebrows are the most expressive feature on her face, looked really weird without them. She had fake eyebrows drawn on when she did her make-up but still, the damage was done. The Cristina standing in the entrance of the church was not the Cristina that Burke wanted to marry. There is no Cristina Burke and never will be.
In the end, she goes back to their apartment to find that Burke is gone. Meredith asks her how she knows and Cristina points out that Burke’s trumpet, jazz collection, lucky scrub-cap and picture of his grandmother are all missing. She cries and then says she’s free. Anxiety washes over her and she suddenly needs to get out of the wedding dress. Meredith helps her get the choker off and literally cuts the back of the wedding dress to get Cristina out of it. Burke and Cristina are over. Burke is gone.
So George isn’t a doctor anymore. Callie could be pregnant. Izzie is in love with George but supports his marriage. Bailey got robbed of the promotion she deserved. Cristina’s single again. Meredith and Derek are on the rocks again. There’s a new intern whose last name is Grey. Addison is leaving (though that never actually officially happened, we’re assuming she is). Alex let Rebecca go and Weber and Adele are reconciling. Not a bad ending to an ok-season of ‘Greys.’
What did you think of the episode and the season in general?

My problem is that the Chief LOVES Bailey. He didn't put much blame on her in the first place for the Denny LVAD incident, and he forgave her, so I don't buy that argument. Moreover, he promised Bailey that she would be chief one day in one of the first episodes of the whole chief race!
How could Callie get it over Bailey? I don't think the Chief even mentioned Callie being a good resident, not the way he did Bailey anyway.
I think the Grey's producers were obviously going for some major shock value here. The Karev leaving Ava thing was practical, so was Burke leaving Cristina and so was the Chief offering Derek the job.
But really...George failing the test? Derek letting Webber keep the job? Callie getting Chief Resident?
That just isn't practical. I've got a bad feeling about the show for next year--if they keep doing storylines like this, "Private Practice" will have beaten out "Grey's" in ratings by this time in 2008.
Lexie (Lexi?) Grey is Meredith's half-sister, Thatcher Grey's child after he left Meredith's mother. She's been mentioned before as a medical student.
George failing the test doesn't mean he's not a doctor. He's still an M.D. But he can't be a surgeon unless he repeats his internship again and passes this time. He could always switch to another specialty. Surgery is one of the hardest.
As far as season finales go, this wasn't the best I've ever seen. Certainly doesn't compare with the season 2 finale. But I've got some bones to pick. I feel like this show has gotten so complicated and soap-opera-esque that it's become almost completely unrelatable to viewers. But that's beside the point. Back to the finale.
George failing his test: Good for plot for season 4, but this came out of nowhere, literally. I half expected Alex to fail. At least it would be within his character.
George/Izzie/Callie: I still feel like there was no spark that ignited the George and Izzie fiasco (other than, of course, the drunken sex), so this facet doesn't sit well with me. But I do hope he stays with Callie, if for nothing else, than to see how a married woman carries on as chief resident. And who doesn't think Callie genuinely kicks a**?
Burke/Christina and Meredith/Derek: I feel like this finale has been a final release of tension that viewers feel about these relationships. Frankly, I got tired of the consistent "will they or won't they?" feeling episode after episode. Which is sad, really, considering they used to be the main reason I watched this show.
Alex/Ava: Coulda been good, really coulda. I hope that crops back up in the next season. That plot line has potential.
I must agree that this episode had more potential than the season ever did. I don't feel it was as strong as last year's season finale, but I do see it as a possible step forward into a new season of great plot and character stories.
You have to feel bad for Derek. Like Denny said, "he's an optimist"-which is something that allows Derek's charater and love life to be so unique and interesting. I feel that this season spent way too much time on Izzie-this is a character who is the typical 'i love you-no wait-oh yea' type that appears on shows that should be comedic, mindless television. Izzie doesn't give me, personally, a sense of what is best about this show-people who represent people from everyday life, symbolizing things in our personal situations more than just 'who did i sleep with and when'.
As for Cristinia-AMEN! I respect her desicion and definitely thought the strongest line of the night was "I'm free"..it truly is something that proves to us that if you indeed do love someone, let them free-
So we all know George is gone-but Burke? Axing two characters is risky business for a popular show-but maybe it is a giant leap forward.
I feel that next season Grey's needs to focus more on-I don't know, MEREDITH GREY?? I am over the back and forth between George and Izzie! I am hoping that next season will fall in depth and create more character development for Meredith, Derek, and this new Grey 2. May good story lines fall Grey's Anatomy's way!
Good recap. I too felt the axe-in-head would have been fine on another episode but was a distraction on the finale.
I suspect Burke is gone for good, partly based on the real-life episode of the incident with the gay actor who plays George. So, here was the plot line written to write him out. Even without the incident, after all, in the pair of Burke and Christina, it is Christina who is BY FAR the more interesting character, and the whole shtick with Burke was getting old anyway. Time for Christina to pair up with a new weirdo.
There is no reason -- not that there needs to (just TV folks) -- for George to quit medicine, just because he failed one test. He can switch to obstetrics or be a cardiologist who doesn't do surgery.
Looking forward to Merdith's half sister, and wonder if the new crop of interns is going to be a part of the new cast. I think it would be fun to see Christina get in a dominatrix role -- a little anyway -- with a wimpy intern, but not George please, he's already got enough to handle.
The aspect of the plot I liked the most, was that Christina had to stop wedding preparations to "cut," and later ends up having Meridith cut her out of her damn dress. The "choker" also obviously symbolic.
Not everyone can be everything in life. Christina is going to be a brilliant surgeon, and she can love, and be a friend, but she just is too out of the norm to be forced into having it ALL, or things like weddings anyway. As far fetched as her marrying Burke was, it was clever the way the writers got her into it gradually.
Burke is leaving for sure, I suspect, since he was not happy about being turned down for the top position, so will go to seek that elsewhere. Also, I bet the producers have done surveys and found that he was people's least favorite character and the one people would like to see replaced by some fresh flesh.
I think the season premier will show that someone wrote the wrong name on the new chief resident list and it is supposed to be Bailey, we never even saw Calli with an ortho intern let alone being in charge of anything- I am also wondering if George is leaving because of the scandal and Burke is leaving because he caused it (on the set)
I agree that Izzie has got to stop this and find someone she can have....I wondered how they were going to keep Weber because he is a big part of the show...I also think we will finally see a lot less ob/gyn story lines without Montgomery....
I don't remember anything about last years finale.....
It was a downer on all counts. I don't mind cliff hangers, if they give the possibility of something positive. The George and Izzie thing is like incest. Couldn't they just have remained FRIENDS. Now the friendship is over. She got over Denny by getting drunk and having sex!
I am tired of wishy washy Meredith. She needs a shrink.
I was just wondering if anyone had or could find what burke said in the operating room when he was reading his vows. I'd love to have his long quote.
thanks.
personally i think that everything was left unfunushed because of adele and the chief and burke and christina in the wedding. I think that at the start of next season, espcially with the chief and adele being toghether again the chief will pass the title to baily and that why she didnt get head resident.
Im not sure how I feel about this finale. I know cliffhangers in finales are a must, but they left a lot of story lines unfinished.
Personal, I think that George and Izzie should be together, because I dont believe he truly loves Callie. And I think that the only reason he married her was because he was grieving his fathers death. You should be with the person who you truly love and care about, not stay with someone out of guilt. He said he didnt believe in divorce, but at this point and considering how the marriage started, they could get it annuled. (And it has been said on some other websites that George will be back next year!)
I love the idea of Derek and Meredith, but Im getting sick of the constant back and forth. Theyre together, theyre not together. Its getting old. Cant the writers just make up their minds, at least for a little while. I mean, seriously, when theyre together, the story line is about them breaking up. When theyre apart, its about them wanting to get back together. Make up your minds, at least for one season!
Im sad that Cristina and Burke didnt get married. It would have made a great story line for next season. I liked them together, because they were so much alike but so different all at the same time. I do think, however, that Burke rushed the wedding and made a lot of changes from what him and Cristina originally talked about. Maybe Burke has more problems than any of us realized. Maybe he is unsure of himself. Im very interested in seeing where this goes...
I really want Ava (Rebecca) and Karev to hook up. It would show the other side of Karev that we just started to see this season, the nice guy. And considering what Addison said to him, and they fact that he left the church...maybe this storyline will happen.
Im wondering if some of this will happen in the season premiere, but I could be very wrong...
Some time has passed since Cristinas Non-Wedding Day. Cristina is living in the apartment, still getting used to Burke not being there. Addison makes the move to LA, to get a new life as the Chief said. Meredith and Derek are still together, but on the rocks in a very bad way, ecspecially since the girl he flirted with is working at the hospital and is Merediths half-sister. Callie and George got their marriage annuled after he confessed to her that he slept with Izzie and that he thinks he is in love Izzie. The heartbreak of the annulment makes Callie want to move away, so she hands the Chief Resident position over to Bailey. Geroge is still at Seattle Grace Hospital, repeating his internship. The day of the wedding, Karev left the hospital and went to Ava. He convinced her to stay in Seattle so they could try to get to know each other on a different, stronger level, but he cant promise her a future. Weber and Adele got remarried and he is still Chief of Surgery. With Addison gone and no real reason to stay Mark heads back to New York.
This is so stupid. I am done with grey's anatomy. We are over. I told myself that if Burke and Cristina don't get married, that's it. I'm done. And I am. Bye grey's!!!
i completely agree with amanda in that there was never a real spark with george and izzie. i mean, yes, they did have drunken sex, but thast doesn't mean that izzie magically fell in love with him. i don't know, the whole situation doesn't sit well with me. i am disliking izzie more and more each episode, and definitely pulling for george and callie. personally i think since callie is rich anyway, she will get pregnant and george can be a stay at home dad. completely unrealistic, i know, but still an entertaining thought. i feel as though there is no way that the writers/producers are letting george go that easily, even though he failed the exam.
the whole lexi grey scenario is both predictable and lame. although i will point out that lexi grey was the woman that derek was flirting with in the bar in the previous episode.
as far as bailey not getting the chief spot, i can't say that i'm suprised. when bailey wanted to open the clinic and spoke to the chief about it, he supported her and told her that she needed to do it to prepare her for the chief spot, because she isn't ready YET. SOMEDAY, but not yet. i also wasn't really surprised that derek turned down the spot yet. i thought he used a little bit of a lame excuse about the chief being able to do the job better. i think it just made more logical sense that the reason he didn't take the spot because he knows that he can't have the job AND merideth, and obviously he really wants merideth. now if only she wanted him.
The show's gone downhill... they have no cool medical cases anymore, it is all wining between the characters, I mean come-on the half sister... they'll bring a cousin or something next season. I am glad Burke is gone, that guy rubbed me the wrong way, and i agree, Meredith does need a shrink, get it together will you... i cant beleive in her state they would actually let her cut patients (well its only tv). Anyway, they gotta get new writers and get rid of that soap like plot.
OMG> this was the most DEPRESSING season finale I have ever watched...I mean, there was not ONE THING positive that occured the entire episode...It was like watching a movie in the HOPES that it would turn around and get better...BUT IT NEVER DID!
Forget the shock value...it went WAY beyond that...it was just down right unbelievable and didnt make sense!!! Why did they choose to go down the roads that they went down? The producers should be FIRED! They need to get some people in there who know how to write a script b/c they did an AWFUL job!!
Finally this show is back on track. The song that drove the climax is called "Keep Breathing" Here is a link to listen to the song: http://collegecandy.com/buzz/2531
I have drunken sex all the time and never fall in love. The plot line between George and Izzy just doesn't work.........not to mention that George isn't very good at playing a straight guy.
Either way, this entire season was terrible and I'm not looking forward to Season 4 half as much as I did this season. It's become a roller coaster of marriages and relationships between people who never seem to do anything but work, drink and cheat on each other. Its getting very redundant and is becoming unwatchwable. I'll give the show another chance, but I'll no longer be clearing my schedule just to see it.
Maybe someone can clear up the Adele pregnancy for me. How is it even possibly that she was carrying Webbers kid. They split up at the end of last season; did they not?
I think some behind the scenes events between Washington and Knight really mucked up the potential and the writers had to adjust. Rumors were going on for a while that Knight would leave because of previous tension and Washington was a liability with others on the set. Heigl was not thrilled with Washington's actions and effort to apologize. I think it was written to be able to allow for a few to leave if need be. This was the safe and padded ending that actually protects the story and allows for some to drift away without any additional confusion or unrealistic storylines.
So all of you that think George is gone; what will happen if he leaves and he and calli stay married? They will only tallk about him and not show his character? I think he will definitely be a part of the new season at least for a little while so they can explain his absence and not just say that the marriage didn't work. That would be a bad move for the show.
The girl that Derek met in the bar is Meredith's half sister, but does Meredith even know what she looks like? If she sees Lexi with Derek next season will she even know who she is? Will Lexi know that Meredith was there when her mother died. That's another thing, they never mentioned Meredith's step-mothers death or a funeral or anything.
So many questions and so few answers. Can't wait til next season!
i hadn't heard this anywhere else so i hope it's not true, but i heard on the radio this morning that Isaiah Washington and T.R. Knight were leaving the show because of all the real life drama they went through last season. has anyone else heard that? it makes sense with how last nights episode went, but that would really suck!!!
Yeah, I don't like this lexi grey AT ALL. I just want Derrek and Meredith to be happy!! I just want THAT to work out. And just go figure that lexi is the one Derrek met at the bar. Geesh. I don't know how I'm going to go all summer without this show! haha
Still, I really wish things could just work out for Meredith for once.
And yeah, I don't like Callie and George together. I love Izzy and would love for them to be together because I think there is more there than just a drunken night of sex. It's not like they just met in a bar or something, this was something that has obviously been boiling for a while now & the sex was just a wake up call. & I certainly wish George passed the exam..if that rumor is true and he is leaving, I will be truely sad because he IS the glue..he IS George. :[
All together, I thought it was a good cliff hanger of an ending (not as good as the Denny one, obviously) but it did leave me a big annoyed, which is a good thing, I think?
in response to David Greenson--george wasn't a surgical intern... which is what he would have been if he wanted to be an intern. he was a medical intern... and so now that he's failed his exam, yes it does mean that he will not be a doctor now... unless he repeats his internship.
that's my understanding anyway... you don't pick a speciality in medicine until after your first year interning... anyone know more about this?
George is definitely still a doctor...he just can't be a surgeon if he doesn't repeat his internship.
As far as Meredith...I can't believe she is the star of the show! She is becoming so incredibly annoying with her internal problems...Maybe I'm being incentive, but can't she just be happy for at least two episodes? Is depression the new mode?
I also think that the whole George/Izzie thing doesn't work - they don't go together and I think it just killed the heartfelt love that Izzie and Denny had...I mean I know that Izzie has to move on eventually, but George? he was like her brother...
Where did this Lexie girl come from? If she's Meredith's dad's daughter - where was she when her sister had a baby and when her mother died???? Doesn't make any sense? Was that not her mother? So Meredith's dad has 3 daughters from 3 different women???
I hope that McDreamy and Lexie don't hook up because then it will really become soap-operish. Thats just wrong!
If they get rid of George AND Burke AND Addison, I really hope they have something fabulous in mind, because thats a big risk!!! I guess we'll see...
Actually George and the crew were surgical interns - There are two types of internships prior to residency: 1) surgery and 2) internal medicine...After their surgery internship, the crew goes on to do their residency/speciality (neuro, ortho, cardio, etc...) - They were all surgical interns...thats why Baily said you have 2 options either "you can walk away from being a surgical resident altogether" and do something non-surgical OR "repeat your internship." Although I'm not sure if he has to do an "internal medicine" internship if he chooses the non-surgical route - in which case, he should just repeat the surgical internship since he wants to be a surgeon.
I think thats correct...not a doctor...any doctors in the house?
And in the earlier comment I meant to say, "Maybe I'm being insensitive" not "incentive" - Thank goodness its Friday!
calii never said she was pregnant. she said they are trying to have a baby, which they are. people need to stop feeling bad for izzie. shes a freaking home wrecker-just like meredith. i wish addison would stay, it's sad seeing her go. burke and christina are meant for each other. i can't even believe burke left her. alex is in love with ava, it's quite obvious, but he wouldn't give her a reason to stay. meredith is such an un-grateful bitch. i thought in the end that bailey would get chief of surgery instead of chief of residence, cali does deserve chief of residence. maybe bailey will get chief of surgery? if the chief leaves. it's really amazing how his wife came back to him, that was probably the best part of the finale, except burke sharing his vows in surgery :]

I was really disappointed in the season finale. I thought that the best thing that happened was the new set of interns who appeared at the end...maybe all of the old characters will be replaced and we can all be put out of our misery!!!
Remember when George was so in love with Meredith....
I can't stand the Izzy and George story...like they couldn't think of anything else. Meredith is such a sorry excuse...yeah she had a tough home life but really...get it together...I hate the neediness of it all.
ok meredith is getting rediculos. enough with being so distant with derek. it would really be nice to see them happy for once..
george and izzie, that's just weird, not that callie's any better w/george.
i'm upset that burke and christina didn't get married. i can't say i didn't see it happening though. burke has pressured her from the begining, starting with giving her a key after being together for a day.
i think it was very strange how adelle was pregnant with the chief's baby. how far along was she???
alex and ava is not a good idea. she has to much baggage, being married and having a newborn. him and addison really should have gotten together.
So I think the burke is leaving for sure. derek turned down the chief position so that weber could stay on the show. george didnt pass his test so that he can leave the show if he wants to, if he leaves him and caliwill divorce bc he'll tell her about him and izzy.. izzy is messed up, how can she just get over denny in one night? no, they just had nothing better to write about. meredith and derek always need drama. is there a possibility that they start the show over, with the new interns, baily is their resisdent, mcdreamy and weber stay and the half sister grey is the new "grey" of greys anatomy? if the rumors about meredith leaving are true it will be about her. and merediths father had the 3 other girls with his second wife, not with different women.
What was up with this season finale?? This was by far the worst episode of Grey's Anatomy. Last season finale had me at the edge of my seat until the start of the 3rd season... I def can't say the same for the 4th season.
First of all... what's with them ruining everyone's life?? ok, I agree with Meredith needing to see a shrink..that whole breaking up/getting back together bit is getting too old and too boring.
George and Izzie?? what did izzie just wake up one morning after having meaningless drunken sex and realize she's in love with george?? C'mon... thats a bit pathetic if you ask me.... I thought she was all hung up on denny??
Callie making chief resident?? that girl should be the one to leave.. she's all pissed that her husband is friends with izzie but yet she takes all the anger out on izzie... such a punk move..
I liked Karev in this season though, showed a nicer side to him, aside from the asshole side that he always played.
And whats with introducing Lexi Grey the SAME way as Meredith?? c'mon people, a little more creativity is necessary!!!
This show is def headed towards dead end quite rapidly...I hope the writers are actually reading these reviews because I actually love this show....or should I say loved?
I'm with Lois!!! I DO wan to slap the shit out of Meredith. How many women with a pulse would ignore Mc Dreamy? Besides Cristina and Burk, the characters need help!! FAST. Addison and Slaon are cool, I'd like to see them develop some twists. The chick who played the amnesiac who Alex fell for was a terrible actress. I had to fast forward their scenes because they were PAINFUL. The only reason to watch is for hotties like Sloan and Shepard.
I truly did not like this episode. I am a die hard fan, but I didn't like the way this season ended.
1. Why can't Derek & Meredith just be happy for once.
2. Burke & Christine: we saw that coming. It is to good to be true. Why not make a twist w/ her past love or bring some into Burke's life to make Christina work for the relationship.
3. Izzy: well I believe that she loved George all along, it just didn't hit her until he got married and she couldn't have her anymore. And George to fail the test: Why? He deserved it the most.
4. What are you going to do w/ Sloan? I hope not put him together w/ Meredith.
5. When will Alex find someone that he can be w/ and everyone could see the other side of him... Maybe him and Meredith. She needs someone to be strong and tell her to get over herself and to grow up... I agree w/ the other comment. The neediness has to stop. Grow Up.
6. Bailey: I hurt for her. She deserved that position. There was never an explanation as to why Chief didn't give it to her.
7. And Derek didn't deserve the Chief's job. There have been to many destractions. I think that Bailey should have had his job.
8. Addison is going to star on her own show. Which I think is going to out do Grey's, which I think is sad because I love this show. It just needs new spark....
9. Callie & George: They either need to be married and act like it or seperate.. They are not good to gether.
I am very dissappointed w/ this season finale. Last years was awesome, but this own. There were really no cliffhangers per say to look forward to next season....
My comment: What the fuck? What's happening? (Imagine me slapping the writers silly)
Well, that's supposed to be comical, don't worry. Still love them for the characters even though it's going really really bad. Heck -- everyone's a critic now.
I dont really quite know what to think about this episode. It felt so unfinished and can you think of one happy thing that happened the entire episode? All of the characters had some sort of travesty happen to them. There was no humor in it. It just kind of made me depressed. And what is up with callie getting chief resident. She never even seemed like she wanted it very much. It was always supposed to be baily. That was dumb and dissapointing
I was very disappointed in this finale. Too many improbable happenings, too depressing. Izzy is madly in love with Denny and months later is in love with George who is already married? George gave no inclination that he would be unable to pass the test; bad test taker? Too worried about Meredith? And how could he suddenly be in love with Izzy when he was so hung up on Meredith?
Bailey could not be chief of staff she is a resident which is why she was up for chief resident! IMO they were all too young; every chief of staff I ever worked with was much older. All in all, I am considering not watching next season. I may be a prude, but all the adultery or wanna be adulterous is too much. Just my opinion.
I agree with everybody in everyway. Although I am sad to see Cristina and Burke not get married, Im glad that he is gone because he was totally changing Cristina. The season finale was just confusing however but yet still good. I hope next season does not leave viewers in awe of whats going to happen. Meridith's half sister should be an interesting twist to the new seasen. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with the the whole Merideth/Derek thing. They need to stay together or apart for a while. It's to back and forth and quite annoying. Personally I liked the first season when they weren't really sure of each other and they did the flirt bantering. Or I think they should give each one a new love interest for a while (McVet).
As for Izzy, I really liked it when she was showing interest in Kerev. I would also like to see more on both of thier backgrouds. Kerev is so seceritive and Izzy with the child.
As for george, I lost interest in his character. I really hope they don't bring him back next season with Izzy.
As for Christina/Burke, I won't be sorry to see him go if he does. I liked her better when she was the smartbutt who didn't care about anyones feelings.
I do agree with the Tony, that they had to write the show with easy openings for some of the actors to leave if need be.
And I hope Baily gets chief of surgery, I think she is the best one.
After the pre-view of a spin off, I am glad to see all Grey's.
George- I feel he did not pass his intern exam because because he needed an out.
Lizzie- is just a girl who wants what she can not have...frist Alex, then Denny, and now George...please get that girl someone who is not locked up with an ego, health issues, or...a WIFE!
Derrick and Merideth -will always have problems, the poor girl has been dumped by everyone one in her life....what do we expect.
Christine and Burke -are to driven to give to each other...plus are the producers maybe looking for a way to out him or George??
With actors coming and going and the new interns...maybe the all of the old cast will go and it will be a new Grey's...we may not notice...the show has lied of misslead us before.
I honestly cannot take this anymore. I can deal with everything on the show but Izzie and George (please say it isn't so ) I think Calie is wrong for George but oh well. I thought they might bring Denny back as a twin no-one knew about that would be cool especially is he is a DR. That would sure straighten out Izzie. Now Derek and Meredith they both need to get their act together, he does not know she does not know, but when he said Meredith was the love of his life and he cried when they saved her well I was like YES YES YES, a marriage is needed here, if derek and meredith do not marry after all of this I will quit watching the show. I know it is only a show but I believe in their relationship it some how seems real. I enjoy everything else about the show since it is based on actual medical cases, 3 that happened in Houston texas, but my deal breaker here is if these 2 dont come together.(now i need therapy )
Here we go denny needs to come back as some twin no one new about that willl straighted Izzie out. then George may have the delema that Callie and Izzie are pregnant. I do know Burk will be back. I will stop watching the show however if Meredith and Derek do not remain together they both have issues maybe we DR. Phil to come on the show and say HOWS ALL THIS WORKING FOR YOU ?? I know its just a show but I somehow believe in Derek and Meredith she is the love of his life and he cried when he thought she died. They go together if not then im so out of watching. The medical cases are real 3 happened in Houston Texas and it it rather neet thing to know and watch . ( now I need therapy )
Just a quick note after reading the comments. First of all, I do not think Burke is off the show. I really think that would be riduculous if Derek were to start something up with Merediths sister. The axe thing did ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING FOR ME. Have no idea where that came from. Sorry Shonda! It was actually ridiculous! The ONLY REASON George failed the test was because he was CONSUMED with Merediths behavior while trying to take it himself, so there has to be some way he will be able to retake it. I mean they let her retake it........ Izzie and George should get together. I think Izzie has lost enough with losing Denny, and I would never have thought that she and George would have the chemistry they have, but WOW, I do like them together. He has actually grown on me alot. Alex will probably run after Rebecca, Weber will go back with that annoying wife of his, although I hope he does NOT. How could you possibly complain about your husband being the Chief??? I mean that is his career. Give me a break. I am sure she enjoyed all of the fringe benfits that came along with being a Chiefs wife..... Bailey?? That is ridiculous!!!! Callie is a spoiled BRAT!!!! Quite frankly that moose annoys me. Ciao Addison!!! She is definitely moving on to the other show. And Unless I was using the bathroom, did George and Callie have sex in the breakroom???? Or was she BSing Izzie being she knows she is in love with George? Callie is a jealous thing you kow....I am not sure. DVR'd the show but it went off at ten, I didn't have it set for an extra 15 min. No Fri airing this time either. Last but not least Meredith. I dont know WHAT her deal is, but she is starting to piss me off with this act of hers. He is TOOO gorgeous for her anyway. She needs a good slap!!! Hoping for reruns in the summer again. Although I have all of them dvr'd with the exception of a few. Kristina is another one. Oh well, Burke is a hottie, and I hope he meets another and she will wake up! That's my take on the season.
Roll on summer to the fall....................................
After the season finale, I am really disappointed in the direction that Grey's is turning to. It's becoming way too much like a soap opera with the intricate relationship and plot lines. I mean I understand that there has to be drama, but seriously, all the drama that the writers have created is excessive. The themes they are introducing are slowly becoming hard to relate to and basically so far fetched. If things don't improve by the next season, they are going to lose millions of viewers.
In the recap above it said that Izzie and George share lots of eye contact and nothing more.
I just rewatched the finale (abc.com) and noticed something. After they received their test scores and George lied and said he passed.
He walked out of the locker room and the last thing he said to Izzie was "I'll talk to HER (meaning Callie, I presume) at the church." Izzie repied "OK"
Obviously George didn't go to the church, so he didnt talk to Callie there, but....
Did anyone else wonder, as Adele and Richard were looking at the twin babies, if maybe they'd adopt one and the bar owners adopt the other? Hey, stranger things have been known to happen!
Derek, the Chief, Christina, and Bailey are the shows outstanding characters as are the actors who play them. In accordance wtih that, the finale was excellent. Five scenes highlighted the show: Derek's scene with Meredith where he states she is the love of his life; Derek's scene with the Chief where he passes back the position to him; the Chiefs scene with his wife when she lost the baby; Christina's "I'm free" scene; and Bailey's scene where she quietly reacts to not getting the job. These actors to a truly incredilble job of making their roles believable. If the writers could lessen eveyone elses time in each episode and concentrate their efforts on these four characters, it would be an even better show.
i think grey's out did themselves this season, it was an excellant season, except, enough with meridith and derrick, let them and us be happy at least for a season. goerge should come back he's been the glue that hold them all together. let mc steamy end up with callie, let bailey, do what she does best, that's be Bailey, she's great. cristina, nice to see the emotion, this season.
This season the show turned out to be too wishy-washy. Nothing ever seems to progress, or improve. Nearly everybody sleeps around but nobody can make a relationship work. The cast represents an intelligent group of people (interns, doctors, surgeons, etc.) living like idiots who don't know what they want out of life. Then we have Meredith's little narratives trying to justify the silliness of the characters. This season was absurd, and so was the finale.
I'm angry at the writers. After getting viewers so invested in the characters, they toyed with our feelings and had nearly everything end unhappily. The exception, of course, is Adele and the Chief - Good for them!! But all the other plot lines ended unhappily for characters I have come to care for. Just left me feeling very sad. Yeah, I know it's just a TV show, but it still affects me that way.
Did I miss something here? I thought Callie was already pregnant earlier in the season before she and George married. I faintly remember her telling this to George and that being a contributing factor to their getting married in the first place.
I was a little disappointed in the finale, but I am a huge Greys fan and will continue to clear my schedule to watch it.
I like Izzy and George together and did not like George and Callie together at ALL!!!! Callie does nothing for me!
Meredith needs to watch it or she is going to lose McDreamy. She put her emotions out there to get him back now she has him and she is going to screw it up! WHat is that!!
Very disappointed in Burke and Cristina not getting married. I love them together. Cristina is still herself with Burke but every now and then shows him a different side its great. I loved watching them! Them ending it was the most disappointed I have been in any season finale I have ever watched!
Adele does not deserve the Chief why did she come back in the picture!?
I think the Karav and Addison story could have went somewhere if they persued it but I did like him with Rebecca, it definately brought out a nicer side to him. BUT I did not care for her as an actress, but the story was there.
I will watch "Private Practice" I did not like it when Addison came to the show, I did not like her with Shephard but I do like her character now that they are no longer together and I am sad to see her go!
All in all I will be faithful to my show and even though I was disapoointed I will be ready for the season to start again.
I have to say I was really upset that Yang and Burke didn't get married, together they even eachother out. That was the downfall of the episode in my opinion. I dont know why Callie received the cheif of resident position either. I think George is a two timing dog that needs to be discovered by his wife so she can leave him. I am also glad Alex did not ask Ana/Rebecca to stay she should start a new life with her family so that was nice of him. I cant wait to the next season of Grey's to bring me on a emotional roller coaster. As far as Addison leaving Seattle I think she should stay, Private Practice is not going to be a great spinoff. I dont see it lasting more than one season from the episode they aired.
My feelings:
EVERY single actor on this show is perfect for their parts.
Izzie and George should remain friends. It was awesome to see that kind of friendship that didn't involve sex. Writers blew that one.
Glad Yang and Burke didn't marry - will make for a lot of good shows.
Mereditha and Derek need to marry. The show needs this couple to be solid.
Don't like the characters all having sex together. New characters should be brought in for love interests - they can come and go at the writers will.
I'm like some of the others - I may not stay tuned for another season.

Not that I assume this poster is going to come back after all this time, but I just felt like correcting: George said "We'll talk LATER." I think you misheard laTER for HER.
This Season was great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS SO WERID to think that BURKE aka Isaiah Washington wont be on the show any more !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lol! I mean its sad to see him go but i mean he had it coming cuz of his anti gay slurs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean WTF WASHINGTON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!dont you think b4 u say !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And what bout Kate Walsh?! Shes leaving 2 I mean come on ABC you cant jus get rid of all the main characters !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean next thing u no there gonna take MEREDITH GREY out of "GREYS ANATOMY"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!But even though im totally against the whole "spin off" Im still gonna hang I there for my gurl addie :) BUT STILL I CANT WAIT 4 SEASON 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME ON GREYS STICK IN THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
I really don't like Lexi-I hope shekinda stays on the sidelines in season 4. I think that Meredith needs help, like Derek said today she's had it really rough, and It would be great to see them work things out....I think Lexi should stay out of the picture...
