Okay. Raise your hand if sometimes you want to slap Ted. Remember that and I’ll ask you again so we can see if this week’s episode of How I Met Your Mother makes that hand go up a little. It’s all about Ted and his high school/college sweetheart, Karen (Laura Prepon), this week and dear god are they annoying. I salute you, Lily and Marshall, for still being Ted’s friend after enduring four years of Karen.

See, Karen’s not exactly what you would call a nice girl. She’s pleasant sounding but so pretentious I could cry for anyone who comes in contact with her. She won’t drink beer, which is fine, but she goes so far as to make a joke, “I’ll get another beer.” Oh, ha, ha, ha. So clever. She’s not just like this currently, either, she was born this way. Lily and Marshall put up with her but it was torture, and not only on them.

There was a recurring cycle for Karen and Ted in college. She would come visit him and then one day he would walk in to find her with another guy in his bed! Yup. Then, he would grow a pair and go see her to tell her off. When he came back, though, they had made up. And the cycle starts again. You would think Ted would realize what a total douche Karen was but apparently he was a totally sappy romantic from birth just as she was the queen of all douches from birth. No, seriously, she actually said, “I can’t believe you guys live in dorms. It’s so American. Let’s all eat grilled cheese sandwiches and be racist.” Yeah. Anyone feel like raising their hand now?

We all know what a tool she is, and now, she can be annoying in the present. Karen recently moved to New York and, naturally, Ted called her. When he tells the gang and they relay what Karen is like to Barney and Robin, everyone dislikes her. Then Ted slowly tells them, in snippets, that he met her for lunch, made out with her, and eventually slept with her. He was with her for about three days when he was at her house one day and another guy walked in the door. All Ted could say from under the sheets was, “Sorry, bro,” which is what the guys he always caught Karen with would tell him.

That was it. That’s what it took for him to finally tell off Karen, even telling her he never wanted to see or talk to her again. He didn’t want to be part of her crazy games anymore. She apologized and said she can’t tell people what she’s feeling but clearly, she doesn’t really have a problem with that. Whatever. Everyone’s proud of Ted until he then says Karen took his advice and broke up, properly, with the other guy. How did he know that if he wasn’t talking to her anymore? Oh yeah. She called to tell him and they’ve been dating ever since.

I don’t know about anyone else but both my hands are up now. Really, Ted? I know you’re desperate but come on, can’t you find some one who doesn’t think she’s European when she’s really from Ohio? Really? You already know the gang’s going to hate her, especially Lily. Why, you ask? Back in college, Lily was painting Marshall in the nude (he ate her bowl of fruit) when Karen walked in. She left pretty quickly but there was some definite lingering in the doorway and staring at Marshall and his naked everything. You know how protective Lily can get and she’s not happy one bit about this new romantic development.

Neither am I but I’m sure it’ll make for some hilarious times on HIMYM. Oh, by the way, Robin has to be at work at 2 a.m. now. Yeah, you read that right. So I don’t know how they’re going to work it so she’s still hanging out with the gang but I sense a job change (hopefully for the better) coming up. And one more thing…Marshall forgot his pants at work today and it was a source of non-stop laughing for one blond haired member of the group who then cut up the extra pair Lily dropped off. That will now be known as the “pants story.” I will use that story to block out any upcoming pretentiousness that comes from Karen and Ted. Good day.
