Any previous comments I’ve made about this year’s crop of dancers on So You Think You Can Dance not being quite as good as previous season’s are null and void after the top 10 performance this week. A tremendous choreography turn from alumni Travis, every dance except one was marvelous, and even Evan gave me a chill or two. This will be the week to remember for a long time, and there wasn’t a single routine from Wade Robson or Mia Michaels.

Kayla and Evan - Choreography by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin: Evan did it. I don’t care how much the judges apparently dislike him, the guy completely pulled off the waltz with a much taller girl. But oh my jeebus the legs on Kayla go on forever. Her kicks and legs were just awe inspiring.

Janette and Ade - Choreography by Napoleon and Tabitha D’Umo: Stop with the Nappy Tabs. It’s stupid. The routine was not stupid. It was in fact one of my favorite hip hop numbers of the season. I’m not sure is there was some spin going on with the behind the scenes clip, but not only did Janette bring the required funk she did it with just a little more style than Ade.

Jeanine and Jason - Choreography by Travis Wall: A million times YES. The best piece of choreography this season by a mile. And now that Jeanine is partnered with someone who can keep up with her she shined beyond even my expectations. For a moment I placed Janette in my number 2 slot, but I think tonight Jeanine shot right up as my number one female this season. Incredible.

Randi and Kupono - Choreography by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin: Weak in every way is the only way to describe this routine. It looked like the both of them were just trying to get through the steps. No force or power in any movement. I don’t particularly like the paso doble, but if I have to sit through one I’d like there to be some minor attempt at power and dominance by the guy.

Melissa and Brandon - Choreography by Tyce Diorio: Hey look, a classic Broadway routine that’s done right. Recent weeks would have you believe this isn’t possible. The movement and dreamy blissful quality of the dance were so right on. With Melissa’s brilliant ability to form shapes with her whole body and Brandon’s power this ended up being such a wonderful routine to watch.

The Solos: The only thing worth notice here are Jeanine and Evan. Jeanine just had such a beautiful presence on the stage, and Evan in his own style is absolutely charming. The rest were your usual mishmash of good and mediocre stock solos.

Ladies Group Number - Choreography by Nakul Dev Mahajan: The night started with even more Bollywood, which has turned into the crowd pleasing dance style of the show. I’m still not sure how any of the girls were able to dance the rest of the show after Nakul made them hop, jump, and flail about the stage with such vigor. The weird mustache face reverse mask thingies were off putting and a little too silly, but overall this was pure greatness.

Guy Group Number - Choreography by Jeffrey Page: Admit it, you really didn’t think Evan would have the power to pull this off. Not only did he, along with the other guys, perform this traditional African piece admirably but he did so with far more panache. I wasn’t sure what to expect as we watched the guys prepare for the routine, but I’m fairly certain I was looking for someone to falter in a major way. Perhaps not as strong as the girls’ routine, this was still a fantastic number.
