There’s good news for Vampire Diaries and ok-news for Melrose Place. It seems The CW is confident enough in TVD to give the series a full order, while Melrose Place’s fate seems less secure as of late.
The Hollywood Reporter posted the news that The Vampire Diaries has been given a full season order, while The CW has decided to pick up just five more episodes of Melrose Place. The news isn’t all that surprising as TVD has performed extremely well in the ratings, averaging 4.5 million viewers per episode. Melrose Place, on the other hand, is struggling with a meager 2 million viewer average. The Reporter speculates that the CW may be continuing on with MP in the hopes that original MP vet Heather Locklear’s appearance in the remake might draw in some viewers.
While I didn’t care much for Vampire Diaries after viewing the pilot, I can definitely see the appeal, especially among young viewers. The supernatural angle certainly gives it the edge it needs to target today’s Twilight-obsessed youth. As for Melrose Place, the series holds about as much interest for me as the original one did.
