The End of the Road For The Bluths

Just when we thought the “Save Our Bluths” campaign had, well, saved “Arrested Development”, it seems the creator has decided to shut the door himself. Creator Mitch Hurwitz says he will not be involved with any further seasons of AD and without Hurwitz, we might not get a 4th season at all.

After FOX announced that it would not bring back “Arrested Development,’ a frenzied fan base was up in arms. The Showtime Network rode in on their white horse and apparently saved the show. Part of the agreement was that Hurwitz had to continue to helm it. Now Hurwitz, due to creative and financial concerns, wants to move on.

Ahh, financial concerns. Hurwitz was quoted in Variety as saying “Of course, if there was enough money in it, I would have happily abandoned the fans’ need for quality. But as it turns out, there wasn’t.” Um.. did he just admit out loud that he would sell us all out for more cash? God bless him, so would I. He even hinted that he would be open to making a movie about our favorite Bluths. If that doesn’t say “I want money, now! Dammit,” I don’t know what does.

Get off your high horse Bluth-ites. At least he’s honest. He’s had financial disagreements with 20th Century Fox TV before and he won’t do it unless he gets what he wants. Is the show over? Probably. Could they reach a decision? Sure. Frankly, I think it’s over and I’m happy for the dozens and DOZENS of episodes out there. Part of me, though, thinks it is a sure sign of the apocalypse that “Bones” will still be on the air. God will not be happy.
