Pee-wee's Big Holiday Trailer: Watch The Beloved Character Make His Delightful Return

It’s time for yet another adventure for Pee-wee Herman. The over 30-year-old character is back in a new movie for Netflix and the first full trailer has finally been released. Now we have a little more detail about what this version of Pee-wee will be like, and what exactly his Big Holiday will entail. Check it out.

While Pee-wee has been around for a long time the character has never really had any continuity. The character from the TV show isn't really the same one that we see here. The trailer for Pee-wee’s Big Holiday gives us a version of Pee-wee Herman who has never left his hometown of Fairville, which appears to be the most stereotypical American small town ever created. It has a sort of Pleasantville vibe going on. Pee-wee is a short-order cook at the local diner where he has a fateful meeting with a character played by Joe Manganiello. As would likely happen with all of us, the experience of meeting Manganiello has a profound impact on Pee-wee’s life choices. Previously a man who had no interest to ever leave his home or try anything new or different, he now decides to take a road trip to New York. As one would expect with Pee-wee Herman, it doesn’t exactly go to plan.

Thankfully, Joe Manganiello didn't try this on Pee-wee.

Fans of Pee-wee Herman, and his first film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure will likely find a lot to enjoy here. This film appears to be borrowing quite a bit from Paul Reubens' first film from 1985. Big Adventure had Pee-wee hit the road to go looking for his missing bicycle. Pee-wee’s Big Holiday has him hitting the road for its own sake. This road trip will give Pee-wee a reason to travel to different places, and interact with different groups of people, essentially making the film a series of vignettes. He meets some Amish folks, some bank robbers, and snake farmers along the way. You know, like you do. How much there will even be a goal for the character to achieve beyond trying to simply get to where he was headed, or alternately, to just get back home, isn’t clear.

Pee-wee Herman is one of those characters that you either find utterly charming or completely annoying. For folks in the former camp, Pee-wee’s Big Holiday looks to contain everything you could possibly want in a return for a feature film. If you’re not a fan of Pee-wee, there likely won’t be much here to change your mind. Except Manganiello. Naturally.

Pee-wee’s Big Holiday will be hitting Netflix on March 18. Will you be jumping on the couch next month to check this one out as soon as it’s available? Let us know in the comments. We just hope it turns out better than Netflix’s last original comedy.
