Parks and Recreation has a different type of guest star appearing in the recently filmed episode that takes place in Washington, D.C. These aren’t big name actors, but they are big names in American politics. The comedy that gets laughs out of politics on a smaller scale has three U.S. Senators guest starring in the episode that is set to air in September.
The New York Times reports that California Senator Barbara Boxer, Maine Senator Olympia J. Snowe, and Arizona Senator and one-time Presidential hopeful John McCain all appeared at the Hay-Adams hotel today to film scenes with Amy Poehler and Adam Scott. The scene was a cocktail party where Poehler’s character Leslie Knope comes face to face with the big time politicians when she visits Washington as part of Ben Wyatt’s big move up the political ladder. It’s not all that unusual for politicians to make appearances on television shows, and it’s a pretty obvious move for a series that is focused on the world of politics, albeit on a much lower level. Last season Scott’s character Wyatt made the big move to D.C. as a new staff member to a congressman, so the Washington connection was an obvious one to play on. It’s always amusing to see these politicians try out their acting chops, and some of them are quite good. Of course, acting has always been a part of any politician’s job description, whether they will admit it or not. The episode is scheduled for September 27th, but is apparently being considered for a move back a week into the season premiere slot. Back to top
