I can’t decide which new True Blood vamp I like better as Talbot and Franklin keep managing to top each other. While I love Franklin’s crazy, unpredictable nature, Talbot’s temper tantrums are hilarious. “You never take me anywhere!”

I might not have to pick a favorite as tonight, we may have seen the last of Franklin. Tara managed to get herself unshackled long enough to feast on her maker-to-be’s blood and then bash his head in with some sort of medieval mace thing. Whether or not turning a vamp’s skull to jelly is a sufficient form of giving them a “true death,” we don’t know just yet but something tells me Franklin won’t be happy if he does manage to pull through.

Speaking of vamp deaths, I forgot how nasty the mess is when a vampire does get killed. We saw one die tonight at the hands of Bill after Sookie was brought back to Russell’s mansion. Bill tried to kill Russell too but the king, being older and stronger, stopped him and handed him off to Lorena to kill him as a punishment for what he did.

I almost felt bad for Lorena tonight. As it turns out, her maker was a torturous bastard who passed on his lust for inducing pain on others to her. Bill was almost calm as he expressed pity toward Lorena for how damaged she is and said he wished he could have known her before she’d been made. Lorena proceeded to torture him, while crying the entire time and then let one of the werewolves and his woman (was that Debbie?) feed on Bill while she sat back and sulked.

Sookie spent some time chatting it up with Russell and admitted that she only recently found out about her white-light superpower. She also mentioned throwing a chain at someone and seeing it wrap itself around the person’s neck. Russell had Sookie locked up in a room somewhere but Tara managed to free her, using a bowl of almonds and a can of woop-ass. She and Sookie took down the werewolf guard and got out of the house. When Sookie ran off to find Bill, she got there just as the werewolves were leaving the cellar, all high on V.

Tara was off trying to find a car but I’m not really sure what they were planning on doing. Can a vampire be shielded from sunlight in a car? Were they going to put Bill in the trunk? Whatever. It didn’t matter because Lorena was still lurking in the basement and attacked Sookie. She threw her into the wall and began to feed off her. At least she didn’t live up to her promise to wear Sookie’s ribcage as a hat, but still, our girl’s not looking too good. As Tara ran into Alicide in the woods (naked Alcide!!!), I think we can expect some kind of rescue attempt next week.

Other Things

Jason is completely smitten by Crystal but she broke his heart when she revealed to him that she was engaged… while her fiancé was standing right next to her. That, added to Jason deciding to wear his high school letterman jacket around just made me feel really sad for him. He took his grief out on Jason 2.0 by busting in on him while he was getting it on with his girlfriend in his car, in a parking lot in broad daylight. Loved the slap on the bottom.

Lafayette and Jesus were playing the flirt-game big-time tonight and all was going well until the guys Lafayette was trying to get to sell V jumped them. Jesus and Lafayette handled the situation but learning that Lafayette sells V, Jesus baled.

Eric’s making like he’s putting the king before everyone else, including Sookie and Sophie Ann. Technically that’s the case as his vendetta is a big one and he has a score to settle. Tonight he swore allegiance to the king and dragged Sophie Ann off to detain her. I’m interested to see if he has a secret conversation with her to let her know what’s going on or if he’s really prepared to sever ties with his queen for the sake of his vendetta.

Russell proposed to Sophie Ann. Apparently, this isn’t the first time he’s done that and though she tried to say no again, he essentially bought a positive response, promising to pay off her debts and throwing a bit of politics in there.

Speaking of politics, Russell’s apparently on the world-domination track of the evil career path. He’s not content with mansions and werewolf pets keeping watch on things while he and his people hide from the sun. He wants all the supernaturals to band together and conquer humans. Talk of the master race and Hitler remarks were thrown in during this revelation.

Jessica and Arlene seemed to find some kind of common ground. They were brought together tonight by an annoying Merlotte’s patron who showed up right before close, ordered a full meal, then took forever to eat it. There was some awkwardness earlier when Arlene cut her finger, which prompted Jessica’s fangs to pop out but when Jessica glamoured the annoying lady, took her to the ladies room and fed off her (without killing her!), all was good and Jessica seemed positively chipper from having figured out how to eat without murdering.

Sam found out that his father is making Tommy dog-fight. This explains the scars. Apparently, Tommy’s mother was also “in the ring” for years and is so used to the abuse that she thinks she has it good because her husband hasn’t left her.

Randomness

Has Sookie always used the F-word so much or is that just a this-season development?

I love that Sophie Ann wastes away eternal life by lounging around by the pool playing yahtzee or in tonight’s case, doing scratch-off lotto tickets.

“Please don’t kill me. I’m pregnant. That probably just makes you want to eat me even more.” - Arlene
