Ugly Betty's Michael Urie On Board For CBS Pilot Partners

The CBS pilot for Will & Grace creators Max Mutchick and David Kohan’s new project has cast one of the two male leads. Michael Urie, best known for Ugly Betty will be one of the two partners named by the title of the project – the other has yet to be cast.

Deadline had word today that Urie has been tapped for a co-starring role in the pilot. So far the only other casting news for this project has been Sophia Bush in the role of the yet to be cast other partner’s fiance. Bush is coming off the long running CW hit drama One Tree Hill, which is ending it’s run this year after nine seasons on the air.

Urie will play the gay half of the two partners on the pilot who are longtime friends and also business partners. He’s been keeping busy recently with live theater performances; the latest has been a starring role in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying on Broadway. It looks like he’s ready to come back to television though, and this mutil-camera comedy might be his ticket. If it can avoid being derivative and focuses too much on gratuitous gay jokes. I know, gratuitous gay jokes from the people who brought you Will & Grace? It would be truly shocking indeed.

Also on board from the old Will & Grace team is director James Burrows, who has also done some work recently on the new series 2 Broke Girls. I wonder who else will pop by from Will & Grace? What’s Shelley Morrison up to these days?
