America Ferrera may be closing in on the final episodes of Ugly Betty, but the actress promises that fans won't be left hanging, according to MSNBC. Not only will we get a chance to finally see Betty without those braces, but there's also a wedding in the works.

The star won't say who's heading down the aisle exactly, but confirmed that there will be one. As for those braces? "They wrote it in a way that sort of lets you have your cake and eat it too," said Ferrera. "I don’t want to say too much ... but we use sort of a fantasy element to get to see a different version of Betty." Does this mean we'll get to see the full transformation/makeover of the character into the stunning beauty we all knew was underneath those weird clothes, glasses and metal?

In one respect, the early cancellation by ABC is good news for fans and the creators of the show as it gave them time to build the show toward a natural and satisfying conclusion. "I think that we’ll be able to make it come to a justifiable sort of end and something that feels right and good to the story and the characters," said Ferrera. That kind of closure just isn't possible with many shows, as they don't know their fate until after shooting their final episodes for any given season. Or if they do find out, it's so late in the game, the best they can do is try and shoehorn in some closure.

It's a difficult balancing game, as fans get frustrated with TV shows getting canceled on them without wrapping anything up nice and neatly -- which makes them more cautious about getting too invested in new shows. At the same time, you don't want the networks getting too trigger happy on a show that doesn't come out strongly, as many of the industry's biggest success stories started out with modest ratings, only to explode alter.

For Ugly Betty, a switch to Friday nights crippled the ratings for the series. Then, when a move to ABC's hit Comedy Wednesday night lineup had no visible effect on those deplorable ratings, ABC really didn't have much of a choice. If you can't get those big audiences for Modern Family and Cougar Town to stick around for Betty, where better in the lineup could you put it?
