HBO’s Veep started out with good reviews and decent viewership on the subscription cable network, and gained even more notice when lead actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a comedy series and the show was nominated for two more awards. If you missed out on the comedy series during the first round or, heaven forbid, don’t have HBO, you may want to check out Veep: The Complete First Season when it comes to Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download on March 26, 2013.
Season 1 of Veep was more of an emotional rollercoaster than I would have expected from the selfish, underhanded, and easily foiled Vice President Selina Meyer, played by Louis-Dreyfus. A few episodes in, the show hits a few more serious notes than I would have expected from the comedy early on. None of those plots are bad, however, and if you manage to get sucked into one episode, you’ll probably be sucked in for the entire season—which I’m sure is what HBO is hoping for.
For a short, eight-episode season, Veep offers a lot of extras for fans. In fact, both Blu-ray and DVD copies will feature more commentaries than episodes, as well as deleted scenes and a behind-the-scenes featurette which will also have interviews with the cast and crew. The only thing the sets seem to be missing are outtakes, and that might easily be rectified if the deleted scenes are comprehensive enough. You can check out the full list of bonus features, below.
