Veep Episode 1: Julia Louis-Dreyfus Stars In HBO's New Comedy
Being the vice president of the United States of America is tricky business, and based on HBO's Veep, it can also be funny business. HBO premiered the first episode of the comedy series, which stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Vice President Selina Meyer. If you didn't catch the episode, we have it here for you to check out in its entirety.
Even those who don't have HBO will have the opportunity to watch the premiere episode of Veep. Much in the way HBO released the first episode of their new series Girls online, they've also posted Veep. The series follows Julia Louis-Dreyfus' character Selena Meyer as she attempts to handle the responsibilities of vice presidency. She's aided by a staff of trusted employees who, work diligently, but like Selina, don't always get it right.
The cast alone is reason enough to give Veep a shot, with Anna Chlumsky and Arrested Development's Tony Hale among Louis-Dreyfus' co-stars. There's a clunky sort of rhythm to the pilot, that actually works for the show, matching the pacing of the comedy, which is awkward at times and reminds me a little bit of Curb Your Enthusiasm. It may be too soon to tell, after just one episode, but I'm hoping Veep is the kind of comedy that pays off bigger and better with each new episode, as we get to know the characters. In the meantime, the series opener was amusing. I'll watch more!
