When I read the one-line concept description for Fox’s upcoming new series Lie To Me, I wasn’t impressed. Even with Tim Roth set to play the lead character, Dr. Cal Lightman, I had my reservations about what sounded like a pretty formulaic series. According to Fox, Lie To Me is a, “drama series inspired by a real-life specialist who can read clues embedded in the human face, body and voice to expose the truth in criminal investigations.”
It sounds a lot like CBS’ The Mentalist or USA’s Psych but after viewing the videos (below) that Fox released, I’m thinking this show could turn out to be really good.
Roth plays Lightman, a man who can tell whether or not someone is lying from their body language, voice and facial expressions. While his skill at lie detection helps him in his work among a team of experts who help local and federal law enforcement as well as government agencies with difficult cases, it can cause problems with his personal life. He’s unable to turn off his inner lie-detector, which probably makes him a difficult man to be around.
If you’re still not sure if this series might be something you’d like, check out these videos below:
Lie To Me premieres Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 9:00 -10:00 PM ET/PT on Fox.
