Whedon Is Back!

By Kona Gallagher: 2007-10-31 22:47:10
Whedon Is Back! Although it’s Halloween, for Buffy fans, today probably feels like Christmas. While their favorite vampire slayer isn’t returning to television any time soon, her creator, Joss Whedon is. TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello is reporting that Whedon and Buffy and Angel alum Eliza Dushku are re-teaming for a brand new hour-long drama called Dollhouse.

Dollhouse follows a group of human chalkboards, including one named Echo (Dushku) “who can be given new memories, skills and even personalities, then stripped of them just as quickly, leaving them virtual children.” The name “Dollhouse” comes from the lab where these people are stored.

The show is set to air on Fox, where Dushku signed a development deal this summer. Dushku was the one who brought the idea of doing a show to Whedon, saying, "I called the one man that I knew I wanted to do [a series] with and had to have to have the best show possible and he was seduced!" Scoring Whedon as the creator, executive producer and head writer earned Dushku a producing credit on the show, in addition to her starring role. Tim Minear, who is also from the Buffyverse is attached to the show as well.

Dollhouse will air on Fox, the network that Whedon fans know as the one that axed Firefly as well as Dushku’s Tru Calling. While some might see this as a bad sign, Whedon is optimistic, saying "I always had a good relationship with [20th Century Fox], and on the network end, it's a completely new bunch of people, and from what I’ve seen, a fairly impressive bunch." As a show of faith (or perhaps a show of pre-writers’ strike stockpiling), Fox has already ordered seven scripts from Whedon. A premiere date for Dollhouse has yet to be set, but Whedon fans can catch the master at work on tomorrow night’s episode of The Office, which he directed. No matter when Dollhouse makes it to the air, one thing is certain: legions of Buffy fans will be glued to the tube.
