Who Do You Think You Are Preview: New NBC Series

This Friday night, NBC will premiere the first episode of their new series Who Do You Think You Are, which follows a different celebrity each episode as they explore their genealogy. Details and video clips ahead!

This Friday’s episode will follow actress Sarah Jessica Parker as she learns about some of her ancestors, one of whom participated in the gold rush out west and another who was involved in the Salem witch trials. Below is NBC’s description for the series and further down are a couple of clips and a teaser for the series.

“Today's most-beloved and iconic celebrities, including Matthew Broderick, Lisa Kudrow, Spike Lee, Sarah Jessica Parker, Susan Sarandon, Brooke Shields and Emmitt Smith, star in Who Do You Think You Are? allowing television viewers an intimate look as they embark on a journey of self-discovery to trace their family trees. Each episode will reveal surprising, inspiring and sometimes tragic stories that are often linked to events in American and international history.

Each week, a different celebrity is taken on a journey into his or her family history. The journey is one of surprising and deeply emotional encounters with the result being one of the most compelling reality formats of recent years. During each episode, viewers will be taken on an emotional, personal and often mysterious quest following America's best-known celebrities into their past, sharing their surprise as they uncover stories of heroism and tragedy, love and betrayal, secrets and intrigue that lie at the heart of their family histories.

At the same time, Who Do You Think You Are? tells a distinctly American story as it celebrates the twists and turns of a great nation and the people who struggled for freedom and opportunity. As each celebrity discovers his unknown relatives - most of whom overcame huge obstacles, the show will take viewers back through world history, enveloping these celebrities in the fabric of our distinctly American history, of which we’re all a part.

From executive producer Kudrow (Friends, The Comeback) in conjunction with her production company, Is or Isn't Entertainment, and the U.K.'s Wall to Wall productions, the series is an adaptation of the hugely successful British factual entertainment format.”

Who Do You Think You Are? premieres Friday, March 5th at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
