It looks like former The X-Files writer/producer John Shiban has signed on to exec produce the new Sam Raimi/Rob Tapert TV project, Wizard’s First Rule. The fantasy series is an adaptation of the Sword of Truth series and named after the first book. Shiban might be well known for his work on X-Files but his more recent work includes writing and producing for The CW series, Supernatural.
Variety reported the news yesterday, stating that Shiban will help turn Terry Goodkind’s series into a TV show that will air weekly. The book follows the story of a Seeker, a guy with a destiny who, in addition to saving the world, also has to throw down with numerous bad guys throughout the series. Wizard’s First Rule’s first season will run for 22 episodes and will air in syndication. Shiban thinks the syndication aspect is a good thing, stating "We don't have to worry about network issues and what our competition is.
I haven’t read these books and with the exception of an embarrassing obsession with the Harry Potter series, I’ve never really gotten into the fantasy genre. I’m curious to know how fans of this series feel about the book being adapted for a TV show rather than a movie. Also, do fans think someone like Shiban, who seems to have a strong background in the sci-fi genre, will be a good fit for this series?

I'm excited about it. I just hope that it is done with quality. Think Xenia princess warrior. The books are long but are, IMHO, amazing. I hope they can get the images, storyline and dialog iof the novel to the tv screen. the books are great, I would hate to see the series tank.
This is a great book series. It is very dense fantasy storyline and suited to a mini-series or season of episodes. Not sure you could do these books in a movie form. Similar to Dune there is too much going on to pack into 2 hours.
Could rival the LOTR or Hobbit if well done. The story is there esp in the early books of the series. If it ends up like a Xena/Hercules clone I'll be disappointed. I have read the entire SOT series BTW. Its a great imaginative series.
I'm not sure, wether, I should look forward to it or not. Many books have been made in to movies/mini series, that have been completely butchered. Having read the series twice I would have high expectations of it, but I won't hold my breath.
The least I would like to see is the Sword to be made right.
i really hope that the book won't be damaged to much cause it can not be told in a cheap serie only in a movie with millions to spend to make it look realistic maybe a three parts movie maybe five for the first three books. It would be greater more exciting and more story with real morals dillema's pain mentally fysycally love stories everything and that will not be captured in a serie so please make a movie and no serie like hercules or xena that will torn the book to pieces
I think if it is done artfully and maybe with the magic graphics of a series like charmed it could work well. At least it wouldn't have to be cut down like a movie would. I would honestly just be happy if they don't butcher the story line there is too much in the books to fit even in a 3 hour movie , even without a huge budget I would be happy to just see the story played out without anyone trying to resold the entire meaning of the books. Movies always sacrifice some of the story to time constraints and tv has a bad habit of leading away from the meaning of the original story just to captivated the audience as it sees fit. If they can avoid those two things it could be great regardless of budget or graphics.
