A&E is giving scripted television another go, this time with The Glades (formerly known as Sugarloaf -- thank you for changing that). The network has obviously been paying attention to what works in the summer, because they've set this cop procedural in Florida. No more dark and miserable sets like on The Beast and The Cleaner.
People want beaches, half-nekkid women running around and bright sunshine. That's why the likes of Burn Notice, Psych and Royal Pains are all doing very well for their respective networks. So, a much lighter tone, bright colors and the occasional alligator and A&E may have finally figured this summer programming thing out.
The Glades stars Matt Passmore(McLeod's Daughter), Kiele Sanchez (Lost) and Carlos Gomez (Sleeper Cell) and kicks off Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 10 PM ET, according to The Hollywood Reporter. If it manages to do well, the network will finally have something to build off of in trying to identify what kind of network they want to be when it comes to scripted fare. And apparently that would be a network very similar to USA Network.
