Just weeks after her husband, Jay-Z, opened the billion dollar Barclays Center with a series of well-received, sold out gigs, Beyonce may be tackling an even bigger challenge. Rumors are swirling that the former Destiny’s Child member and current pop sensation has been enlisted by the powers that be to host the 2013 Super Bowl.

No one involved in the negotiations has spoken publically, but The Associated Press is reporting Beyonce is already on board and an announcement will be made about her impending performance sometime tomorrow.

People like complaining about Super Bowl halftime performances almost as much as the referees, but with more than one hundred million American viewers, a mountain of press and the (slim) chance of wowing the world, the biggest stars continue to accept the challenge. Last year, Madonna brought along LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, MIA, MIA’s middle finger, Cee Lo and Cirque du Soleil to deliver a visually interesting and somewhat good performance. If Beyonce does head for the Superdome on February 3, 2013, she’ll likely bring a slew of supporting acts with her, but as for how they’ll fare, there’s really no telling. Some of the greatest acts in the history of music have delivered snoozefests, and some lesser stars have shocked everyone with greatness.

You never can tell, but as gambles go, Beyonce is a good performer to wager on. She’s an absolute professional and always willing to go big. She’ll need both of those qualities to please both grandmothers and granddaughters. Here’s to hoping she’s brilliant.
