Boardwalk Empire Season 3, Episode 2 - Spaghetti & CoffeeAuthor: Jesse Carp

The Season 3 premiere of Boardwalk Empire marked the beginning of a new year (and new rules) for the HBO series in many ways. "Resolution" not only literally showed the beginning of 1923, with several events shaking down at Nucky's New Year's Eve party, but also, and more importantly, signalled the start of a new era without Michael Pitt's Jimmy Darmody to co-anchor the show. And, in truth, it felt like RIchard's face, more than a little hollow.
Boardwalk did its very best to cover the gaping hole by introducing Bobby Cannavale's Gyp Rosetti, a new character and one who can can unite us, and the gangsters, all in a mutual hatred (which, as far as complex storytelling goes, isn't all that interesting). One thing was clear, the Sicilian Season 3 baddie has a short fuse and something tells me Nucky never should have pinched his cheek like that in front of all the top players. Or anywhere for that matter because Mr. Rosetti definitely is a man who knows how to hold, and violently act upon, a grudge. Here's a look at "Spaghetti & Coffee"... Before we get to Gyp's guns, it was great to see Eli (Shea Whigham) and Chalky (Michael K. Williams) back in the mix, not to mention a quick look at Stephen Root's Gaston Means, another new character who is based on a real person - a corrupt lawman, conman and forger. Awesome. Now, back to those guns that everybody's got. It looks like Gyp's taking Nucky's rejection a little personally which looks to be very bad news for Owen. Boardwalk Empire returns with Episode 2, "Spaghetti & Coffee," Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO. Created by Terence Winter, it stars Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Shea Whigham, Vincent Piazza and Michael Stuhlbarg. Back to top
