Boardwalk Empire Season 3 Premiere: Two Clips From Resolution

"To the Lost" left a rather large hole to fill for the upcoming season of Boardwalk Empire. Set in New Jersey's Atlantic City during prohibition, the HBO drama lost several important characters over the course of the second season but none as substantial as the one who took two to the head in the late moments of the season finale. His or her name shall be spared for the sake of spoilers, for a few more sentences at least, but it's not giving anything away by saying that Bobby Cannavale's Gyp Rosetti looks to be a formidable new contender for control of bootlegging on the Boardwalk.
HBO recently released a few clips from "Resolution," the third season premiere of Boardwalk Empire, which airs this weekend, and the first one introduces us to Nucky's newest problem after he put those two little holes in Jimmy's head. I told you only a few more sentences! I don't know how the show could possible dream of replacing someone as gifted as Michael Pitt but Cannavale is a fine place to start. Take a look at the scene where "Gyp Rosetti Arrives at the New Year's Eve Party." So HBO doesn't title their clips as well as they write their shows, sue 'em.
Despite carrying around a dog, Gyp doesn't seem the playful type and he definitely didn't take to being interrupted or squeezed by the cheek. No one likes being squeezed by the cheek, which I'm sure Nucky knows, especially in front of major players in the illegal alcohol business like Lucky, Lansky, Rothstein and George Remus. The next clip [courtesy ScreenCrush] puts us in a closed florist in Chicago where two of our returning characters have an unlikely meeting. Or, as it would seem, increasingly more likely. Here's "Capone and Van Alden."
It's exciting to see that Van Alden, sorry, Tommy is still involved in the criminal underworld in some capacity and wow, is Michael Shannon an imposing dude. However, I don't think that one meeting will be enough to keep Stephen Graham's Al Capone from coming back after being treated so flippantly. At least, I hope so. Boardwalk Empire Season 3 premieres with on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO. It stars Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Shea Whigham, Vincent Piazza and Michael Stuhlbarg. It was created by Terence Winter.
