Bruce Greenwood And Several More Added To Cast Of Challenger Disaster TV Film
The BBC and the Science Channel team-up to tell the story of the 1986 Challenger explosion in a TV movie format seemed to be a bit of a weird one, but maybe that is because the Science Channel isn’t exactly known for that sort of content. Regardless, the still-untitled project is well underway, and has now added a slew of names to the upcoming documentary-oriented drama’s cast.
The project will focus on all sorts of types of people involved with the Challenger, including scientists and military types. Last month, William Hurt was signed on to play the physicist heading up the project, and now he will be joined by Star Trek’s Bruce Greenwood, who will play Air Force General Donald Kutyna, a man who Deadline is reporting was instrumental in determining what really happened to cause the bewildering Challenger disaster.
Greenwood isn’t the only new addition to the cast. A Season on the Brink’s Brian Dennehy will also serve as a big role in the TV movie as the head of the presidential commission. The Borgias’ Joanne Whalley will play Hurt’s wife. Deadline is also noting The King’s Speech’s Eve Best, Pirates of the Caribbean’s Kevin McNally, and stage actor Henry Goodman will also all join the main cast. Except for not having the dratted title determined, things seem to be coming together for the docu-drama, and shooting for the project will start this month. We’ll keep you posted when the Science Channel and the BBC announce an airdate.
