Christina Applegate And Jason Sudeikis Remember The 90s In This Week's SNL Promo
Christina Applegate is set to host Saturday Night Live this weekend, and if these promos are any indication, we should be in for a really fun night. The actress, who made a name for herself as Kelly Bundy in Married, With Children and now stars in NBC's Up All Night, mentions that the last time she hosted SNL, it was 1993. That was a good time for SNL, as Jason Sudeikis reminds us.
Most of what Applegate and her promo-sidekick Jason Sudeikis talk about in the promos below reference her original hosting stint on the NBC sketch comedy series, which was back during the height of her Married, With Children fame.
I think my favorite is the end when the promo goes all Fresh Prince-early-90s. Good stuff. But Sudeikis' reference of the "Matty Foley" sketch reminded me of Applegate's first episode. I'd only just started watching SNL around the early 90s, and I consider myself fortunate for having "discovered" the series at the start of some of its best years, with Chris Farley, Chris Rock, Julia Sweeney, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider and David Spade among the cast. The "Matt Foley" sketch Sudeikis referenced had Applegate playing a teenager who's being told off (along with her "brother" played by David Spade). She tried to hide her face behind her hair, but it was obvious she was laughing. And understandably so, Applegate had trouble keeping a straight face as the enraged Matt Foley (one of Farley's most memorable SNL roles) lectures her on where her life is going. Here's a snippet of itů
Those were the days.
It'll be great to see what Applegate brings to the episode this Saturday night! SNL airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
