After a year spent shooting movies and popping up for part of a season in True Blood, Christopher Meloni has finally signed on for a TV pilot. The former Law & Order: SVU has joined Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker’s pilot, formerly titled I Suck At Girls, at Fox.

In the now-untitled pilot, Meloni will play Jack Dunlevy, a father and former military man who also practices oncology. The pilot will center on Jack as well as Jack’s teenage son, who will be played by The Abduction of Zach Butterfield’s Connor Buckley. According to Deadline, Jack will be a no-nonsense sort of guy who has trouble being fatherly, and at the same time his son is having trouble learning to be a man. Based on Halpern's book, the pilot is also set sometime pre-Internet influence.

Meloni’s been a busy guy ever since he dropped his full-time SVU gig and it seems the man wasn’t gunning for a new pilot, having passed on I Suck At Girls back when it was still rolling with that title. It’s no wonder it was difficult to persuade the man to jump back into TV; Meloni's set to appear in Man of Steel, as well as opposite Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd in David Wain’s They Came Together, and he’s recently signed on for the Sin City sequel. Luckily for Halpern and Schumacker, they were persistent enough to convince the actor to get on board the second time around. We’ll let you know whether the currently untitled pilot moves forward at Fox.
