CNBC's Erin Burnett Leaving For CNN image
Sad news for fans of CNBC. The business network is losing one of its principal female anchors. Erin Burnett, co-host of three morning and afternoon hours of market talk, has announced she’s turning in her ticker and heading for more diverse opportunities over at CNN. Not to be confused with the Money Honey Maria Bartiromo, Burnett has been on the network in some capacity since 2005, but with recent guest spots on The Today Show as well as a few very public comments about doing more than business news, the exodus should hardly come as a shock.

According to The New York Times, Burnett will begin appearing on CNN starting this summer. Rather than being integrated into a current program, she’ll host her own brand new offering, though its title, format and timeslot are all still yet to be determined. As of now, the hot rumors have her claiming the low rated John King, USA hour at 7 PM EST or Ali Valeshi’s two hour block between 1 and 3 PM EST. The latter has been appearing regularly on CNN’s wake-up American Morning, and he may well switch over permanently.

No plans have yet been made by CNBC to fill Burnett’s exiting heels, but the network did release a statement thanking her for her service and wishing her luck. Thus far, the anchor has excelled in all her non-business opportunities, and this new position, likely a hybrid of hard news and economic talk, shouldn’t be any different.
