The topic of the death penalty is certainly a divisive one, not to mention a morbid subject to explore. But it's also especially relevant in this country, given that it's a part of the legal system for more than half the states in the U.S. It looks like the focus of Discovery's upcoming special Death Row: The Final 24 Hours will be less on the use of the death penalty as a means of justice, and more on what the last day is like for those sentenced to death.

Discovery's special Death Row: The Final 24 Hours takes a look at the final moments leading up to an execution. This includes insider interviews from the people who work on Death Row, and stories about things that have gone wrong, and what the schedule for that last day is like for a prisoner on Death Row.

This first video focuses on the last meal. Apparently, there's a budget set for that and it's surprisingly low for Oklahoma. Would your chosen last meal cost less than $15?

And this one explores the topic of the various methods by which the death penalty is carried out, including firing squad and hanging. Apparently, there are steps taken to prepare the rope before a hanging, and there's a system that was put together by the arm years ago to determine the drop-distance based on the criminal's weight and height…

For those with an interest in this side of the legal system, and those who can stomach exploring such a morbid topic, this could prove to be a fascinating look at the outcome of our criminal justice system.

Death Row: The Final 24 Hours premieres Monday, April 30 at 10 PM ET/PT on Discovery.
