Demi Lovato In Talks To Guest Star On Glee In Season 5
After weeks of headlines about the fate of Glee in the wake of Cory Monteith's tragic death, it looks like the series is getting back on track in pushing forward toward business-as-usual. Yesterday we shared the peppy new promo for Season 5, which offers no indication of the major character departure in store for the new season. And today comes word of some casting news related to Rachel and Santana's New York arc in the series. Demi Lovato is reportedly in talks to guest star in the musical dramedy for what's said to be a significant arc.
TVLine reports that Lovato is close to a deal to appear in Season 5 of Glee, playing the role of Danie, "a NYC-based struggling artist friend of Rachel and Santana's." Their sources also say she'll interact frequently with Adam Lambert's character, which implies that Lambert's role is tied to the New York side of the story. When we first heard that Lambert was set to guest-star on the series, it was unclear whether he'd be appearing in Rachel/Kurt/Santana's side of the story, which is set in New York City, or if we'd be seeing him at William McKinley High School interacting with the New Directions kids. This bit of news seems to confirm the former.
Meanwhile, TVLine says Lovato's character would appear in at least six episodes, starting with the second part of the show's Beatles' tribute, which is set to air October 3. The site says Glee will work around Lovato's X Factor schedule. And that brings us to what's going on with Lovato these days. Given that she's set to return to Fox's Fall-airing singing competition, a bit of cross-over with Glee seems particularly fitting, especially during the fall. As for Lovato's talents, she couldn't be more suited for a show like Glee. Like a number of up-and-coming young talents in the industry, Lovato's juggled acting and music throughout her career. She got her start on Barney & Friends and went on to star in the TV movie Camp Rock. She eventually went on to star in her own Disney Channel series Sonny with a Chance. With that kind of experience and exposure under her belt, the sky was the limit. And all the while, she was building her music brand releasing albums.
Most recently, she filled one of the empty chairs on The X Factor, and unlike Britney Spears, Lovato is set to return for a second turn as judge on the singing competition, which is back for Season 3 this fall. And assuming things are locked in place, it looks like we'll be seeing her on Glee this season.
