Dexter's David Zayas On Season 7 And Batista's Evolution
With its primary focus on a serial killing blood spatter analyst, it's a wonder Dexter has any time to pay attention to the rest of the ensemble. However, those of us who are familiar with the series know that the supporting players have stories as well. Among them is David Zayas' character Batista, who hasn't been especially lucky in love. The latest character video released by Showtime in anticipation of the series' seventh season premiere focuses on Batista's history with women and where that might be leading him.
As exciting as it will be to see where things pick up for Deb and Dexter when Season 7 premieres, there's also the matter of the supporting characters, among which is Batista, whose history of failed romances may be catching up with him. The video below, which has David Zayas talking about his character, focuses mainly on the past, but there are a couple of hints about where things are headed for Batista going forward…
"Batista may not be as positive as he has in the past seasons. Things that have happened has taken a toll on him. And so now, he's contemplating whether there's other things out there ror him," Zayas says.
Could Batista be heading toward early retirement? That seems to be what Zayas is hinting at near the end of the video when we see him talking about buying the waterfront restaurant. Batista is certainly among the characters that are deserving of some peace and happiness, but will that happen before the series wraps up? It's hard to imagine Miami Metro without him around! I do think there's something to the idea of his past taking its toll and affecting his work, though. That could make things very interesting for the upcoming season.
Dexter returns for Season 7 on Sunday, September 30 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.
