Did The Wrong Person Go Home On Dancing With The Stars?

Anyone who’s ever watched American Idol with any consistency knows at least one person gets utterly screwed every season by wonky fan voting. It’s like clockwork. Some poor soul will sing their heart out and ultimately go home because overly confident fans decided to use their votes to protect someone who was noticeably worse and seemingly in more danger to go home. Years of watching the strange phenomenon on Idol have always left me weary of the pretty good performance, but because I’m new to Dancing With The Stars, I was completely blindsided today by the elimination of Kristin Cavallari.

The former Laguna Beach star and on-again-off-again girlfriend/ fiancé of Jay Cutler scored a twenty-four on the performance show, her highest of the season, but thanks to an apparently lukewarm fan reception, she’s packing her bags, while Nancy Grace and Chaz Bono stick around for another week. I’ve enjoyed watching both of those less talented performers thus far this season, but I just can’t condone either staying at the expense of someone like Kristin who could have actually made the finals. I wasn’t the only one dumbfounded either. Poor Len Goodman looked like he might stroke out over the curious decision making of the voters, if you can even call it decision making.

That’s what is often upsetting about these reality competition shows. People don’t always vote for who they think did the best job. They often vote for their favorite person who sucked. I’m sure if most people were asked to decided who should go home between Nancy Grace and Kristin Cavallari, they likely would have chosen Nancy. That’s not how the structure works though and here we are.
