While Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson knows more roles on the big screen these days, he hasn’t abandoned his pro-wrestling and small-screen roots entirely. In fact, the G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Fast Five star has recent credits on WWF Raw and Eurosport’s Clash Time. While he has a number of films in the works, including the much anticipated Fast Five follow-up, now it looks like he’s teaming up with Ben Silverman’s Electus for a competition series called The Hero.

According to Deadline, the show is described as a TV and social media competition series, which will include a search for “the next great hero.” Ordinary people will be sent on a “high-stakes global adventure.” They’ll be set up in three teams, which will be stationed on three continents and will “face moral dilemmas testing their courage, leadership skills and self-sacrifice limits.”

So it sounds like the “hero” thing applies to more than merely being the most physically capable, which adds an interesting twist to the show. Per Deadline, Johnson’s listed as an executive producer, along with Electus, 5x5, Charles Wachter and Dany Garcia. The site doesn’t mention whether Johnson will be appearing on camera for the show. He’d certainly make a fitting host. It’ll be interesting to hear more details about this competition series, including where it will land. Network TV? Or perhaps USA, Spike or G4...

It’s also worth noting that this is another intriguing project from Electus, which is also responsible for Mob Wives, Fashion Star, and partnering with Starz and The Weinstien Co. for the drama series Marco Polo.
