Next month, The Comedy Awards is set to air on Comedy Central (and some other networks). It was announced today that during the star-studded event, comedian Eddie Murphy will be awarded the inaugural “Comedy Icon Award.”
Comedy Central announced today that Murphy will be the recipient of the first “Comedy Icon Award.” The award is set to be given to a person who has made “an extraordinary contribution to comedy and whose impact and innovations have changed the landscape and inspired future generations of entertainers.” Given Murphy’s many memorable film roles, not to mention his hilarious stand-up comedy and his run on Saturday Night Live, I think it’s safe to say he fits the bill for this prize.
The first annual Comedy Awards are set to air on Sunday April 10th on Comedy Central, Spike TV, VH1, CMT, TV Land, Logo and Nick at Nite. Among the presenters and attendees are Tina Fey, John Stewart, Jimmy Fallon< Tracy Morgan, Matt Stone, Trey Parker, Ty Burrell, Louis C.K., Stephen Colbert, Rober Corddry, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig. With all of the comedians lined up to appear at this event, and now factoring in Murphy’s award, we could be in for a very funny treat when The Comedy Awards airs next month.
Below is one of Murphy’s well known comedy bits from his stand-up special Delirious.
