Fox's planned holiday-themed block of animated comedy last Sunday was partially postponed. In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the network decided not to air the previously scheduled episodes of American Dad and Family Guy due to sensitive content. Fox has since rescheduled Family Guy's Christmas episode, and has a new episode of American Dad to air, but it's not the holiday episode.
Fox released a new trailer for this Sunday night's Animation Domination block, which promises the hour of Simpsons (two reruns back to back) and then Family Guy at 9:00 p.m., followed by American Dad.
The Family Guy episode that's scheduled is "Jesus, Mary and Joseph!," which is the Christmas episode that was originally scheduled to air last Sunday. But it looks like Fox still isn't ready to show viewers the planned Christmas episode of American Dad. Rather than "Minstrel Christmas," the network is airing "National Treasure 4: Baby Franny: She's Doing Well: The Hole Story" (that's the full episode title.)
Looking at the episode descriptions for last Sunday's eps of Family Guy and American Dad, it's not entirely difficult to speculate why Fox might have decided to sit on "Minstrel Christmas" for a little while longer. Family Guy's episode is a FG re-imagining of the Nativity Story. I'm assuming there's something in it that Fox decided was a bit too sensitive to air two days after the shooting, but maybe it wasn't so bad that they feel they should hold off on the episode for longer.
But American Dad's "Minstrel Krampus" involves a Christmas demon that punishes naughty children. Perhaps Fox feels it's still a bit too soon to air an episode with what sounds like a darkly humorous emphasis on children as it's implied by the description. That's just speculation though. Fans of the series may need to wait until next year to see the episode, assuming Fox decides to air it eventually. In the meantime, they'll get a different new episode this Sunday night.
Back to Family Guy, Fox released this clip from "Jesus, Mary and Joseph!," which airs this Sunday (12/23) on Fox.
