Those who would prefer to be kept unspoiled as to the fate of the dearly departed Griffin family dog, Brian, should read no further! Vague and unconfirmed spoilers ahead!

And by “unconfirmed,” we mean, EW says that Fox declined to comment on this news, but the site reports that Brian will be back on Family Guy in the episode that’s set to air December 15. The question of how exactly he returns is left unanswered, but EW does ay that “he will continue to play a role on the show.”

As you likely saw or heard, Brian the dog, voiced by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, was killed off in the November 24 episode of the long-running animated series, titled “Life of Brian.” Fans were left to grieve after Brian was hit by a car and died not long after. Fox then ran this memorial video:

After Brian died, the Griffins got a new dog, who’s named Vinny and voiced by The Sopranos’ Tony Sirico.

Given that Brian is voiced by MacFarlane, and is a hugely popular character and Family Guy is an animated series that’s known to bend the rules of reality — case in point: Brian and Stewie spent the first half of Brian’s last episode time traveling — it’s not all that surprising that we’d hear of the dog’s return. EW even notes that prior to the character’s death last month, Brian was mentioned in the description of at least one upcoming episode. So his return seemed inevitable. The question is, how will he be back? Because there are options, the first of which would probably be Stewie managing to clone him or find a way to go back in time and bring a past version of the dog back. Of course, doing that might cause some kind of catastrophic ripple effect. It does seem like there’s a good chance that Stewie will be involved in Brian’s comeback, as EW says the episode, titled “Christmas Guy” will open the door to Brian’s return, and that “Stewie devises a master plan to get the one and only thing he wants for Christmas. We’ll find out what that is next Sunday night!

In the meantime, here's a classic FG Brian moment:
