Last July, the Science channel announced that they would be airing a tenth anniversary special for Joss Whedon's beloved sci-fi series Firefly this November. Well, November is nearly upon us and Science hasn't forgotten their promise! The channel followed up today with a fresh reminder that Firefly: Browncoats Unite is set to air next month, and some updates on what will be featured.
It's hard to believe it's been ten years since Firefly aired. The Fox series didn't receive the attention it deserved at the time, but has since gone on to earn a cult following of fans known as Browncoats, a reference to the Independence fighters in the Firefly-verse, of which lead character Malcolm and his first mate Zoe were once a part. Since its cancellation, the series received a follow-up feature film, and fans have continued to express their support. This summer in San Diego, the cast reunited at Comic-Con, much to the delight of the many fans in attendance. Those of us who couldn't be there can, at the very least, see some of the footage during the Browncoats Unite special. Science's Firefly: Browncoats Unite is a one-hour special, which includes exclusive cast interviews and footage from this year's Comic-Con panel. It's set to air Sunday, November 11 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Science channel. But those Firefly fans who aim to misbehave a bit more can start their day by immersing themselves in the series, as Science as an all-day Firefly event lined up, beginning with a full series marathon that starts at 7:00 a.m. ET/PT. Here's part of the announcement that was made today: The 60-minute special includes secrets from the set, exclusive cast interviews, and footage from this year’s colossal Comic-Con panel that dominated the pop culture conversation. Joining Whedon and Fillion for FIREFLY: BROWNCOATS UNITE are Serenity crewmembers Sean Maher, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Morena Baccarin, Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres and Jewel Staite; along with executive producer Tim Minear and executive story editor Jose Molina. For fans of the series, Firefly: Browncoats Unite sounds like a must-watch. And though many of us have seen the series numerous times, a re-watch of the entire series leading up to the special may be in order. Back to top
