Flashpoint's Final Season Gets A U.S. Premiere Date
Flashpoint is ready to launch its fifth and final season in the US. The Canadian police drama, which has already premiered at home in the north, has been given a premiere date here in the U.S. ION will start off the last season October 16th.
Flashpoint first hit American television on CBS in 2008. The drama follows a special tactical team, the Strategic Response Unit, that takes on dangerous work such as bomb threats and hostage situations in Toronto. The network decided to drop the show during the fourth season, but ION stepped in to ensure that U.S. fans will get to see the show through to its conclusion. TVLine says ION picked up the series last fall, and will now air the final season only a few weeks behind the Canadian airings.
Anne Marie De Traverse and Bill Mustos, producers for the show, announced back in May that this would be the last season. The duo stated that they wanted to end the show “on a high note” and provide “a fitting series conclusion in our 75h episode.” Five years is good run, and plenty of series can gone well beyond the time when saying goodbye might have been a good idea. While getting a few more years out of a series might please fans in some cases, it’s often better to end it before the plot starts to lose steam and the writing starts to go downhill. Producers for Flashpoint seem to be feeling pretty secure in their decision and their timing.
