Fox And Foxx Bring In The Flow With Affion Crockett To Weekend LineupAuthor: Jessica Grabert

Back in the day, when Jamie Foxx was a bit player on In Living Color, I don’t think anyone envisioned him as a producer of a network sketch series. Then again, I don’t think anyone envisioned him having a career as a pop star, either. In the year since Cinema Blend first wrote about Foxx’s new sketch idea for Fox, the man has done a lot of work to get the show, now titled In the Flow with Affion Crockett, into production.
While Affion Crockett, with his Short Circuitz sketch comedy experience, will be the mainstay of the series, a ton of celebrity guest appearances are expected, including Snoop Dogg , Russell Simmons, and even sports talker Michael Strahan. Chris Brown is also scheduled to appear, although I’d say his skills as an actor are third to his skills as a singer and intimate partner abuser. I’ve seen those episodes of The O.C. Sketch comedy experience or no, In the Flow will be competing with Saturday Night Live for viewers, at least indirectly. The show is set to premiere Sunday, August 20 at 9 p.m.; however, reruns will subsequently begin airing on Saturday nights at midnight—falling in the middle of SNL. According to Deadline, In The Flow was initially set for a 12-episode run with a preview after the American Idol finale, and has now been demoted to a six-episode run without any early look at the program. While this could be a timing fluke, I don’t see it as a serious threat to NBC’s Saturday night sketch market, or even Sunday’s premium cable dominance for that matter. |
