Fringe fans will see a familiar face if they decide to tune in to Fox’s new medical drama The Mob Doctor this fall. Kevin Corrigan has signed on to play a recurring role on the new series, keeping him busy while the final season of Fringe unfolds.
Corrigan, who plays Sam Weiss on Fringe, will be taking on the role of a mobster on the series according to EW. The Mob Doctor is about a brilliant young doctor, played by My Boys Jordana Spiro, who moonlights as a doctor to the mob when her brother finds himself in hot water with them over some debts. Corrigan will play Titus Amato, described as a Michael Corleone-type gangster with confidence and bravado. If The Mob Doctor does well it could be a smooth move for Corrigan over to the new series once Fringe takes its final bow this season.
Terry Kinney of Ozwill play Corrigan’s brother Salvatore, a very different personality from that of Titus and much more of a hothead. It sounds like the show is putting together an interesting if somewhat stereotypical mob family for Spiro’s character to take care of. Of course, stereotypes are what television mobsters are all about for the most part, so no surprise there. The right casting can certainly help a s how rise above the curse of the stereotype, and there is some good casting here for sure.
The Mob Doctor is set to premiere on September 17th, and aims to fill the hole left by Fox’s long-running hit House in the medical drama niche.
