Last week's "The Thief of Baghead" didn't quite live up to the promise of Futurama's fantastic seventh season start. That may be unfair since Comedy Central's animated series came out of the gate sprinting with three straight 'As,' but Baghead was simply not as original, well-structured or emotionally satisfying as the season openers.
It still made for good TV because Futurama faltering still bests (embarrasses) most other comedies on their good days and this week offers a chance to regain the brilliance with an always welcome Zapp centric installment. Any episode starring Captain Brannigan, Futurama's sorry excuse for a space cowboy (Kirk without the heroism), is sure to feature plenty of big laughs and here's a clip from “Zapp Dingbat” called 'The Treaty Of Table 7.'
I guess that's what the Treaty would have been called if Zapp hadn't ceremoniously ruined the hard bargained for peace ('Well... okay') by attempting to converse without the translator. Zapp has a hard enough time saying the right thing when it's in his own tongue but of course Kif isn't man enough (or alien enough) to silence the DOOP Captain before he puts his foot in his mouth with the baloney spanking sister comment coming out of it...
Futurama returns with “Zapp Dingbat,” Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET on Comedy Central. It stars Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio. It was created by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen.
