While Game of Thrones is gearing up for an action and suspense-filled third season on HBO, the subscription channel’s home entertainment department is putting together Game of Thrones: The Complete Second Season, a 5-disc collection that will debut on Blu-ray (with HBO select), DVD, and digital download on February 19.
Let’s face it, Game of Thrones is certainly a series that can be watched over and over again, with background details and clever double meanings thrown into the dialogue that make repeat viewing an often rich experience. Plus, if battle tactics and the fog of war is your thing, Season 2 is a lot more indulgent in the actual war aspect than Season 1. If you aren’t a fan of fantasy, so be it, but if you are a fan of the series, it may be one to own.
HBO released the details for The Complete Second Season today, and whether you opt for the DVD or Blu-ray copies, there should be plenty of extras for avid fans of the series. Both sets will come with twelve episode commentaries from those involved with the production as varied as A Song of Ice and Fire series author George R. R. Martin, to actors Peter Dinglage and Emilia Clarke, and creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. That’s really only the tip of the iceberg for the extensive sets, and while you will get quite a few more extras with the Blu-ray copies of Season 2, the DVD isn’t shabby, either.
