Mariska Hargitay has been awesome during this season of Law & Order: SVU, taking over capably after Christopher Meloni left her in the weeds. Now, producers are spicing up her character’s life a little bit by introducing her to a new love interest. Who will play the handsome man? None other than part time actor and part time crooner, Harry Connick Jr.

Connick will play executive assistant district attorney David Haden in a multi-episode arch that begins when Haden is assigned to a case with Benson (Hargitay). As generally happens when new partnerships form on procedurals, Haden and Benson are at first wary of one another, but as their relationship warms up, a little romance will begin to brew.

Connick's first episode is scheduled for January 18, so you have two weeks to come to grips with the idea of seeing the man on television, again. The last time Connick took a recurring role on a TV series it was to play Grace’s husband during Will and Grace’s tenure in the early 2000s. TV Blend is happy to see the man returning to NBC.

Since Hargitay and Connick seem to be pretty chummy in real life, it will be interesting to see how the couple’s onscreen romance pans out. You can check out a sneak peak, below.

You can also check out the full press release over at NBC’s site. Law & Order: SVU airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET.
