House of Lies Preview: Episode 6, Our Descent Into Los AngelesAuthor: Jesse Carp

House of Lies improves slightly every week. They've slowly come to realize that perhaps less is more, especially when it comes to the style-heavy show. Why clutter up the screen with your visual gimmicks when you have a cast full of talented actors? The show needs to stop relying on 'edginess' - both stylistically and narratively - and just try and flush out the characters and let the conflicts they've put in place blossom. Thankfully, this seems to be the strategy for Episode 6, "Our Descent Into Los Angeles."
The two clips that Showtime has released to showcase the upcoming episode do a great job of focusing on the more interesting conflicts that House of Lies has been developing since the troubled pilot. We get the return of MetroCapital and Greg Norbert in full force, which of course causes some discomfort for Marty and the team around the office since, well, Norbert explains what happened between his wife and Marty's, uh, wife during the first show. And since the giant company he works for is now interesting in acquiring Galweather and Stearns, things won't be getting any easier for Marty at the office. Good thing they're heading to L.A. The second clip focuses on Kristen Bell's Jeannie and her obvious commitment and relationship woes. She and her fiancee (who mysteriously appeared in Episode 4) are out shopping for the wedding cake and it becomes abundantly clear that Jeannie hasn't really been thinking too much about the wedding, rather atypical of most brides as, pointed out by the creepy twin pastry chefs. Not to worry, her fiancee is a terribly understanding person and doesn't (mis)interpret the lack of planning for cold feet... even if he most definitely should. As always, those in the right region can also watch the full preview for "Our Descent Into Los Angeles." It basically presents the same two storylines as the clips above except that it expands on Marty's thread by reintroducing the escort that claimed to be his wife and caused the marriage problems for Norbert. Oh, and she killed someone. Have fun this week Marty! House of Lies airs Sundays at 10 p.m ET on Showtime. It stars Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell, Ben Schwartz, Josh Lawson, Dawn Oliveri, Glynn Turman and Donis Leonard Jr. It was created by Matthew Carnahan. Official Synopsis via Showtime, Marty goes to war with his son's school when Roscoe is accused of sexual harassment for trying to kiss a boy. On the home front, Marty's personal life is further complicated when April, a stripper he met in New York, suddenly reappears. Meanwhile, Jeannie starts to get cold feet at the prospect of her upcoming wedding. |
