How I Met Your Mother Teases Upcoming Rhyming Episode
Forget Slapsgiving, this year How I Met Your Mother offers us “Bedtime Stories,” a “rhyming episode told in three tales,” which will air the Monday before Thanksgiving (November 25). An all-rhyming episode of How I Met Your Mother? It could be Slap-bet/Robin Sparkles-amazing or… well, it could be annoying by the end of the first act. The jury’s still out, but let’s stay optimistic here.
CBS hasn’t released a description for the episode, but we may be able to mine some details out of this clever little teaser. The rhyming story indicates that Marshall and Marvin are on a bus on the way to Long Island (and that they left the book in the car)— does that mean they’ve parted ways with Daphne? Is the bus how they’ll get to Farhampton for the wedding? That might mean no more Long Island Railroad train that doesn’t look anything like the actual LIRR. Native Long Islanders get it. (“Click-click, tickets out!”) Everyone else, please excuse the nit-pick.
Moving on, CBS promises an episode in three tales, and the teaser just so happens to include three illustrations:
One says Robin takes the cake:
Is there some kind of cake-related mishap in store? Taking the most literal approach here, maybe something went wrong with Robin’s cake and Robin finds herself stealing another one? That actually sounds like a shenanigan Lily would get involved in.
And then we have Mosby at Bat:
Presumably something to do with Ted at a baseball game. No idea how this would factor in, considering they’re all supposed to be at a wedding weekend, but maybe there’s a game somewhere? Or maybe this is more of a figurative “at bat” using a baseball metaphor to explore Ted’s romantic life.
Finally, we have “Barney Stinson, Player King of New York City”
This one seems vague when we factor in Barney’s reputation with the ladies, assuming that’s the way “player” is being used here. So maybe this one has to do with Barney retiring. Seems like something he would do before his wedding weekend, but who knows?
It’s also possible these illustrations are just random, but that seems like more of a longshot, considering there are three of them and the Ted one’s kind of specific.
“Bedtime Stories” doesn’t air until later this month. In the meantime, here’s the description for the flashback episode coming up this Monday:
"Platonish" — In a flashback episode, the gang ponders the future of the Ted, Robin and Barney love triangle. Meanwhile, Barney accepts a series of challenges from Lily and Robin, on the final season of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, Monday, Nov. 11 (8:00-8:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Bryan Cranston guest stars as Ted’s former boss.
