We've heard plenty of Big Bird jokes in response to Mitt Romney's comments about PBS during last week's Presidential Debate. Tonight's episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will take a different approach at linking Romney with PBS. Watch the sketch that has Jimmy Fallon playing Mitt Romney in a Mister Rogers setting.
Sesame Street may not appreciate being used in actual political ads, but late night talk shows appear to be fair game for this type of humor when it comes to PBS. Below is a clip from tonight's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, which has Fallon starring in "Mister Romney's Neighborhood," a humorous spoof on PBS' long-running children's program Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. The focus is on Fallons take on Romney, but there is an appearance by "Barack Obama," who stops by for a visit.
"Hey look, it's the trolley. It's on the way to the Neighborhood of Make Believe. That's where me and Paul Ryan get our facts from."
The sketch works a bit better for its nostalgic value than it does for its political humor, but that's ok. It had some good lines and it connects PBS to the debate and election. Since that's been a major talking point since the Presidential debate, it's topical enough to work.
Late Night with Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 12:35/11:35c on NBC.
