Joel McHale Trains Melissa McCarthy For Her Emmy Noms Announcement Gig

You know what is even less exciting than awards ceremonies? Announcing the nominees for said awards ceremonies. It usually happens around the crack of dawn, with celebrities who look far too good for that ungodly hour patting all their peers on their expensively attired backs. At least the last few years they've been bringing in some good talent. This year, it's Melissa McCarthy's job and she goes looking for a few tips (from the wrong guy).
McCarthy's probably best known for her breakout role in Bridesmaids as the kind of female counterpart to Zach Galifianakis' Alan in The Hangover. She was rude, crude and out for some dude...oh, and amazingly funny in the process (Bridesmaids still remains my favorite comedy of the year, you can read Josh's four-star review here). However, she's not hosting the Emmy nominations for no reason; she is the lead on Chuck Lorre's newest successful sitcom, Mike & Molly.
Before taking a look at the promo, aptly titled "Emmy Training Day," let's get back to that wrong guy she asks for advice. Joel McHale, star of The Soup and Community, may have done the duties last year but he doesn't seem like the best mentor. Actually, he seems like the worst mentor, which makes the video all the more funny. I love both of these actors, so, although I won't be tuning in the catch the Emmy noms live (reading them on the internet a few hours later is just fine by me), I don't mind spending a few minutes watching this promo.
I can't watch this without being reminded of those (attempted) viral videos that featured hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway training for the Oscars. We all know how that turned out. Yet, this is merely the nominee announcement and, since no one will be watching, I'm fine with them having fun with the idea and at least trying to drum up some enthusiasm for the early morning event.
Watch the nominations live on the Emmy website, July 14th, 2011 at 5:30 am PST.
