Josh Gad Signs On For New Girl Season Premiere

A lot of crazy shenanigans went down in the Season 1 finale of New Girl, including a wacky guest appearance by Thomas Lennon and a scene where car keys were thrown into the desert. Now, the hit Fox series is gearing to pick up where it left off at the end of its first season, and the show has added a special guest star to help ring in the new season.

According to THR the season premiere of New Girl should feature a lot of romantic opportunities for lead character Jess (Zooey Deschanel). In the premiere episode, airing at 9 p.m. ET on September 25th, fans will get to catch Book of Mormon’s Josh Gad in action, well before he heads over to NBC to star in the midseason comedy 1600 Penn. During his short stint on New Girl, Gad will play a delivery man at a bar who hits on Jess around the same time Bent’s David Walton shows up to also woo the leading lady.

New Girl’s Season 2 premiere will land on September 25th in a pretty strange format. The network created a special “preview” episode that will air initially at 8 p.m. ET, with the actual season premiere landing in the 9 p.m. ET time slot. This should prove pretty weird for fans of the hit show, who will be forced to endure a half hour of Ben and Kate between the new preview episode and the series premiere (which could be fine if you are into siblings raising a kid together). It's a smooth move for Fox to ensure some extra added eyeballs during its new series premiere, but when I am waiting on Jess and the gang, as well as Walton and Gad's appearances, I'm unsure if the half-hour gap will endear me to the new show, cute girl from We Bought a Zoo or no.
