Earlier this fall, we learned that Fox was moving forward with Stars in Danger: High Diving, a celebrity high diving competition to rival ABC's yet-to-air Celebrity Splash. Fox announced the list of celebrities set to take the plunge in the competition, which premieres early next year.
Premiering Wednesday, January 9 at 8:00 p.m. on Fox, Stars in Danger: The High Dive is a melodramatically titled competition series, based on a German show, which has celebrities taking a crash-course in diving techniques before eventually competing against one another in a series of Olympic-style dives (solo high diving, synchronized diving, etc). Olympic diving medalist Troy Dumais will offer commentary to the viewers. Among those set to compete are Jersey Shore's Jenni Farley (a.k.a. JWOWW), Alexandra Paul (Baywatch), sisters Kyle and Kim Richards, NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens and actors David Chokachi and Antonio Sabato Jr. Also on board is shark attack surviver and Soul Surfer writer Bethany Hamilton, who's no stranger to water but may be at a disadvantage, given that she lost one of her arms in the shark attack. Then again, that hasn't kept her from surfing, so it should be interesting to see how the survivor does with diving. So there are fewer people participating than we might see in a season of Dancing with the Stars, but that's not all that surprising given the nature of this competition. Ballroom dancing is certainly difficult, but gracefully and skillfully falling head first into water is a scary endeavor for some. The participants are presumably up for the task, but some may have an easier time with the challenges this competition series presents. We'll find out when the show premieres next month.
