Though the vampire craze will eventually fade (yes, I promise it will), there's really no lack of appetite for the fantastical on TV. We've been taking trips into the paranormal on television since the days of The Twilight Zone, and even with Fringe, V and The Event all going (relatively) strong on the networks, there's still plenty of room for more strange occurrences on TV. Kevin Williamson, who's never let a good trend go by without cashing in, is apparently working for a partner show for his current CW offering The Vampire DIaries, and is not working on a project described as "The X-Files meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

According to Deadline the supernatural drama project is still in the early stages, but it will focus on a group of people who investigate paranormal happenings-- a storyline the creators of Fringe will probably be very interested to hear about. There's no deal with the CW yet, but if the pilot turns out even marginally good they'll probably be happy to pair it with the successful Vampire Diaries. It's unclear what that would mean for the show's current follow-up Nikita though; it's not the buzziest of new fall shows, but it got picked up for a full season earlier this year, so it seems at least somewhat healthy.
