It's been a while since we've heard any major updates about Dexter's eighth (and very possibly last) season, but with the series set to make an early return, premiering with Ray Donovan in June, we should probably be hearing - and hopefully seeing - a bit more from the show as summer approaches. Today comes word that Last Resort's Darri Ingolfsson is set up for a multi-episode arc on Showtime's serial killer drama.
EW posted the news, stating that Ingolfsson will play "an antique dealer of old medieval equipment who starts dating Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) neighbor in a multi-episode arc." The neighbor goes unnamed, and considering we don't really know Dexter's neighbors, the actual person may not be nearly as relevant as the proximity Ingolfsson's character has to Dexter through his relationship. That brings us to the first part of the description. Medieval equipment? I'm picturing weird weapons and torture devices, but then again, thinking about anything related to Dexter takes me to a dark place. We can really only speculate as to how Ingolfsson's character fits into the story, but as EW notes, there are loads of possibilities from that description.
Ingolfsson's most recent credit is the role of senatorial aide Robert Mitchell in Last Resort. We saw the character getting close with Autumn Reeser's character Kylie Sinclair in the unfortunately short-lived submarine drama.
Dexter's eighth season is set to premiere on June 30, ahead of its usual fall return. While Showtime has not officially confirmed that the series is on its last season, signs point to that being the case, with CBS president Les Moonves referring to Season 8 as Dexter's last season earlier this month. It was either a slip-up, or a mistake, but the comment goes along with past rumors that the show was on the way out. We're still waiting for official word on the show's status, which is expected to come before the series returns for Season 8.
