While there has been bad news for a couple of shows today, there is some good news to report, as well. ABC has ordered five more episodes each of the networkís Friday night comedies Last Man Standing and newcomer Malibu Country, which ranks as the most watched new comedy this season.
The news comes shortly after the demise of two other series; both MTVís The In-Betweeners and the CWís medical drama Emily Owens, M.D. got the axe. The Reba McEntire starring vehicle, Malibu Country, has seen a ratings slide since its debut, but the series is holding its own, especially considering itís in a Friday night timeslot. In the series, Reba plays a woman who escapes a bad marriage to start a new life in California. The show also stars Lily Tomlin and Sara Rue.
Last Man Standing, which stars Tim Allen, is currently in Season 2, and provides the lead-in for Malibu Country. It too has seen a slide in the ratings, but is the most-watched show in its timeslot among adults 18-49, reports Deadline. Malibu Country has performed the impressive task of keeping 100% of its lead-in in the 18-49 demographic. Both shows debuted later in the fall season, so the smaller episode order may be a result of that delay, as less episodes will likely get us to the end of the season.
This puts Malibu Country among the new ABC shows that have managed to stay alive this season; both The Neighbors and Nashville have already earned full season pickups. The network has also cancelled both Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue.
ABCís Last Man Standing and Malibu Country air at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m ET on Friday nights.
