Mariah Carey And Blake Shelton To Perform During NBC's New Year's Eve With Carson Daly
Just a day before New Year’s Eve, NBC has offered some details about their annual special New Year’s Eve with Carson Daily, along with the following trailer, which announces Blake Shelton and Mariah Carey among the performers for the event:
As the year grinds to a close, NBC has secured some top-notch talent for their last big event of 2013. As the above teaser indicates, Mariah Carey and The Voice coach (and Grammy winner) Blake Shelton are set to perform during Carson Daly’s New Year’s Eve special, which will broadcast from Times Square and is set to air at 10:00 p.m. ET. NBC actually describes New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly as a two-part special that airs Tuesday night from 10-11 p.m. and then at 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. It looks like NBC has local programming set to air during the gap.
Glee’s Jane Lynch is set to co-host, with actress-comedian Natasha Leggero and actor Anthony Anderson set to appear as guests.
Shelton and Carey’s performances should certainly draw viewers for this special, as both are beloved artists with notable success in their fields — country for Shelton and R&B and pop for Carey. We should also factor in the popularity of NBC’s singing competition The Voice, as Shelton has made an even bigger name for himself outside the country music genre serving as one of the coaches in the series. Shelton’s not the only one with judging experience, however. Mariah Carey took a turn judging American Idol last season. Of course, their respective music careers are their biggest claims to fame. Shelton’s last album, Based on a True Story… earned him a CMA for Album of the Year, and he was named Male Vocalist of the Year for the fourth consecutive year. Carey, meanwhile, has sold over 200 million albums to date, with eighteen Billboard #1 singles. What will she perform tomorrow night? Tune in to NBC and find out.
As for the host, believe it or not, this is actually the ninth consecutive year that Carson Daly has hosted this event. Daly had already finished his run as host of MTV’s massively popular music video show TRL and was hosting NBC’s late night talk show Last Call with Carson Daly when the Peacock first nabbed him to front their New Year’s Eve special. These days, when it comes to New Year’s Eve, Daly’s biggest network TV ratings competition is surely Ryan Seacrest, who hosts ABC’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve special. Seacrest co-hosted the ABC special alongside Dick Clark and assume the role as primary host after Clark passed away last year.
