In its heyday, MTV was something of a trendsetter, presenting music and original programming to its youthful audience. The cable network has since grown up, and while shows like Awkward. and to some extent Teen Wolf give me hope that MTV has some creative juices left in it enough to deliver quality content with a more original feel to it, in addition to tapping into the British well for series it can remake (Skins, the upcoming Inbetweeners), the once music-focused channel has taken to digging through its own closet for dresses that might still fit. Recently, that includes Punk'd, Beavis and Butthead and coming soon, House of Style.
Premiering in 1989, House of Style ran for about a decade and focused on the fashion industry and the lives of models. Among its hosts were Cindy Crawford, Shalom Harlow, Daisy Fuentes and Rebecca Romijn. The series made a one-episode return back in 2009. And now, according to THR, it's coming back this fall, set to be featured exclusively on the MTV Style digital platform, though it sounds like there will be some TV crossover.
Given the existence of MTV's style channel, which was created a couple of years ago, a House of Style return not only seems fitting, but there's also a proper place for it. Factor in the continued (possibly even increased) interest in fashion fueled by shows like America's Next Top Model, Fashion Star and Top Design - to name a few - and the House of Style comeback may even be a bit overdue.
We'll have to wait until September 6 when the MTV Video Music Awards airs to find out who is set to host House of Style. Per THR, the series' shooting schedule will coincide with New York Fashion Week and we'll see its official debut on October 9.
Per MTV's site, they have a documentary short set to come out August 7 which will look back at the original series and include interviews with former hosts and models.
